Can Anyone help me with angle iron size on this radio rack?
It looks to be 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 X3/16. Photo from Google
Thanks, Barry

The angle is 1.5" by 1/8". The corner gussets are 1/8" plate and the four corner front/back angles are bent 1/8" plate as well (they are not symetical...one side is longer than the other and the tops and bottoms are different). Additionally there are two channel stiffeners on the top between the front and back angles.

If you want I can sketch up dimensions and construction details for you.

That would be awesome Bruce. Thank you very much.

Let me know if this make sense. I can take some pics that might clarify things and show where the welds are, etc.

Thanks for the incredibly detailed drawings Bruce. I sure appreciate the effort you must have gone to.
Cheers,

Bruce, I am back to the well again. I started the build on this before Covid and I am now ready to get back at it. I wish I could have taken Geoff up on his offer to see his in person. What a monster. When you see photos and read the measurements you still don't visualize how big this thing is. I may have to add another leaf to the springs on the C15TA. I have a couple of questions on the measurements that I just can't quite make out. How is the angle on the very top ,shown with arrow, attached? Also the area circled is very faint and I can't quite decipher it. After the work you put into the detailed plan I don't want to screw up the build. The last question is about the paint. In some photos it looks to be painted with the pebbly finish similar to the radio cases. Is that the case and has anyone found a source for that? Thanks very much.

I can't believe I found my sketch. for parts E and F The lower notation is "Screwed to underside of front & back angles" This is shown on the bottom sketch. The upper notation is " 1" by 1/2" channel 1/8" thick " and those dimensions are O.D.

The top angles are welded on to the rails in four places each, the welds on the underside of the channels where they contact the 3" channels they sit on. The welds are the full width of the 1-1/2" angle on the front, middle, middle and rear surfaces. There are no welds on the ends or top. Make sense?

The finish is matt brown wrinkle paint, probably not available. What I have done is used black which should be available then spray the brown over top. That is if you can even get wrinkle paint anymore.

Extra springs nothing. The amplified set goes in the HUW on a flimsy table screwed to the floor. The weight and being top heavy must have been a problem.

Thanks Bruce, that's a great help.
