Just to update that a bit, we have been adopted as the MVT National Show now and the jump-off for their official Normandy Tour being very close to the Portsmouth ferries.

I am currently aiming on 700 vehicles, however, the MVT advise planning for 1000.

Errrrrrrr, yes.

Good Lord....

Great minds think alike. Ignore my last PM, didn't see this one...:D

Congrats, and see you there, old man!

BTW, we DO have to work on certain parties ref attendance and dates... and push your drive-past! :)

Time to Declare!

Who's going to be here, and who's going to meet us at Normandy? We'll all be at the campsite at Colleville-sur-mer... who are we going to see, when? :)

Rolf S. Ask 02-03-04 19:44

Port-En-Bessin

is the place many of the Norwegians will be. The camping site is named Port'land I think.
Anyone lese staying here??
I will not go to England (even if most of the Norwegians will).
Do hope to be in place 3. June.
Anyone who can recomend Museums at the road down from Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium?? Will there be many places closed since I bet they will be at Normandy themselves??

Geoff,
I will be at Horndean, then with main MVT camp at Etreham, near Port en Bessin. taking a QL along with two friends coming up from the Colonies down under. As usual it will be a case of bumping into people as and when.......!

Richard :)

MLU is on the move.... CMPs wanted!

I'm confirmed for London Gatwick on 20 May, returning 13 June. We'll do the parade past King's Stone on it's 60th anniversary, 22 May, then Sir Richard's Overlord show. 04 Jun we go to Normandy via Portsmouth.

Those of you in the UK and Yurrup... I can't stress enough that if you can make it with your CMP vehicle starting 22 May for this Parade, your participation will be forever rank amongst the higher annals of MLU-dom. A personal representative of the Canadian High Commissioner to Great Britain WILL be in attendance to mark the occasion officially. This has been arranged by none other than our own esteemed Richard Notton Esq. Hopefully Sir Richard will also arrange for the BBC to be there... :D

For the rest, I would hope to see you at OVERLORD in Southampton at least, but failing that, in Normandy. This will be an amazing year for all of us.

Keep in touch through this thread and do what you can.

I can't wait.

Thanks,

Geoff

Geoff,

You will be on your own then, because the rest of us will be at the Overlord event at Horndean....about 24 miles by road, east of Southampton.:D ;) :p

Oh, sod off! :p

Find us there for sure... look for the Maple Leaf Up sign (by Ballard's 15 cwt Polsten Ford) and the Canadian Red Ensign... :D

Now... who's going to make the parade Saturday 22 May?

Re Horndean

I've never been to Horndean ( or any other of these events!) before, can anyone give me directions to the site from Junct2 A3(m), and advice on admission charges, car-parking etc?

It is/will be signposted from J2 A3M Dave, and you can also get the gen from the Solent MVT web site (URL under my name as ever) on the Show Schedule page. This is the page for the map itself:

http://www.solentmvt.co.uk/OL%20map.htm

Its £5 for adults, £1 children & OAP, MVT members with a current card and vets with a plausible story are free.

Come and see me for a :smoker: , T or beer and a wind-up of the Canadian pixie, Ball-Spinnington.

You will find the Gales HSB (or GBH if you prefer) brewed a stones throw away and to be had in the beer tent, very palatable.

We intend to fill Spall-Binnington with it as we have bets on the ultimate capacity of Mr MLU until we reach MLD.

Thanks very much for the info. depending on family etc, will see you there. No beer as will be driving :( , but T & :smoker:

Now you've done it Geoff- Sleeping Bag says 'do you want your food with one nurse or two?' Better watch out for her - 5'4" of (out of date) dynamite, bring first aid kit. :D
This is an English/Irish mongrel version of V_D, don't wind her up unless you wanna sing soprano!! LOL

PS: she won't drive the Rover, can't see over dashboard, still misses her MGB.

Gawd, I never thought the Naval Establishment could sink to this level...

In one sense you're lucky (the Rover stays intact), but in another... hell, ever heard of a cushion and blocks on the pedals?
:smoker:

BTW ref the MGB: I cut my teeth on a '57 Morris Minor, and the first car I ever owned was a 1959 A-H Sprite. My ex had a '75 MGB when we met, and it was the worst POS I've ever driven! It cost her half the original purchase price in the two years it took me to persuade her to sell the damned thing.

Think cushion, blocks and beer. Repeat after me... :)

If she wants to say anything else I'm getting her her own login here - last response from The Sleeping Bag --- 'Re-arrange the words -bike on your's - into a well known phrase....'

I'm thinking of my own health here when I say - I'm outa this now - she can type anything else herself.

MVT Tour

Out of interest.....how many of you guys on this Forum will be on the MVT Normandy Tour at the Etreham campsite?

Richard

Geoff Winnington-Ball (RIP) 08-05-04 23:03

Well, a bunch of us will be at Colleville-sur-mer, but not having a map in front of me, how far's that from where YOU will be? We should coordinate ASAP, guys...

Geoff,
Your camp looks to be about 7 klicks away from Etreham. We will / should be at Horndean for 3 days anyhow and will no doubt meet some of the members. How do we recognise each other? Suggest a rolled up copy of Wheels & Tracks under the left arm...........

No sweat re your last ref Horndean... look for the MAPLE LEAF UP sign underneath a Canadian Red Ensign... one of those beer-swilling pigs will be me, and if not, the other swine in attendance will know where I am and will keep you suitably occupied until I can be found and/or return on my own hands and knees... :D

Frightfully simple.

1. There are two Stalwarts, only one is a 623. (for the unwary, it
has a crane and different, deeper windows.) It will bear the
entry number 1033.

2. It will stand next to the DTB F15 Polsten - this is a bit easier to
spot than when someone says "I'll be with my jeep, its
green." It will bear the entry number 412 and stand next to a
near perfect Morris Commercial PU8/2 entry 413.

3. I will tie the proper Canadian Red Ensign to the private, after
dark, personal golden-pink sunshine, HP sodium lamp on a
yellow pole, provided I can:
a) wrest it from Ballard
or
b) Binnington-Wall brings another.

4. Accost any Air Cadet clutching a Motorola GP 300 black,
wireless set and ask him/her to call me.

5. Buy a programme and observe the schematic layout plan,
go to block marked "Show Sec."

6. Stop any slightly lanky old fart putting around on a ex-French
mil Peugeot SX8AR. Probably :smoker:

7. Start again at 1 above.

As a special facility; I have to fit an extra tap on site Tuesday, I'll take the GPS and post the lat/lon which will get you to within 10ft.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Yes.
Probably.

Oh, I had "your" Major Boisvert (I'll call him Greenwood) on the phone today, nice chap. Actually he was just off for a run, as these army types do, so I spoke more with Mrs. Greenwood, very English as opposed to his Canadian and it seems can't be bothered with the Jean-Claude so just calls him JC. :) :)
