Queen's Diamond Jubilee
 

Hi All

Was watching the flotilla honoring the Queen this morning, quite the show, had planned to watch it on the TV but the satellite dish box decided to crash just then so went on line and watched the BBC feed on one screen and happened to find The Telegraph's live feed. What was need about the Telegraph's coverage no talking head news commentators or ads.

Anyway enjoyed the boats, does anybody know the story on what looked like a WWII patrol boat had the number 102 painted on the bow?

"Built in 1936, she is one of only 22 100-Class High Speed
Launches that were used by the RAF to rescue World War II
airmen from the seas. The launches operated from various
bases around the coast of Britain and saved more than 13,000
lives during the course of the war. In 1993 she was spotted and
bought by an enthusiast who began an intensive and thorough
restoration following which she was re-launched by HRH Queen
Elizabeth the Queen Mother in July 1996."

I wanted to see the whole thing on television too, but today was a REALLY bad day for the digital signal, and it was painful enough to watch the nightly news. Everyone looked like a mosaic!!! Bloody rural lack of coverage :mad:

I remember in mid 70's my Father took me out of school for a couple of hours, so we could stand by the side of the route that HRH was to take and wave as she went by, while visiting Australia.

That couldn't happen in present times. For a start, the school wouldn't allow you to take the time off, and with the problems associated with terrorism, the route wouldn't be identified.

Ah the good old days! Simpler times. Happier times.
When we all had a sense of pride in our monarch. Not like that anymore :whinge :whinge :whinge
