Our event this year coincided with the White Muster at Kyabram. Steve Dietmann from Sydney organised to take the White Half Track belonging to Bill Bates of Victoria to this event on Sunday 17th March. Take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cv_Z...-N70gAmy17fSAw

Some sad news I've been asked to share

Firstly we were saddened to hear during the event of the death of Charlie Anderson, who did not attend this Corowa event but was a regular there.

This message was sent to me for your information:

Quote:

Subject: Memorial for Charlie Anderson

We have now received details of the Memorial Meeting being organised for Charlie. His son, also Charlie, advised me that the Celebration of his life will take place on Tuesday, the 26th March, at 1.30 PM at the Baptist Church, 22 White Street, Nerang.
The details of this will be printed in this Thursday’s Courier Mail. The occasion will allow one speaker from each of the Clubs to which Charlie belonged, to speak for a few minutes. It will not be a religious service.
There will be tea or coffee and sandwiches following the speeches.
I have been particularly asked by the family to request no flowers, however if you would like to donate, they would request that you support either the Leukaemia Foundation at GPO Box 9954, Brisbane, Q. 4001 or The Myeloma Foundation of Australia at 335 Swan Street, Richmond, Victoria. 3121. Phone 03 9428 7444.
Once again, I would request that you pass this information on to other members who may not have access to the internet.

Rob Fraser.
Two other attendees were hospitalised with different ailments, and we extend our best wishes to them for a speedy recovery.

We were also shocked to hear today of an accident which occurred as one attendee was returning home from Corowa on Tuesday when a tyre reportedly blew out on his Land Rover causing it to roll, resulting in the driver's death.

hrpearce 20-03-13 11:00

Not the sort of news we want to hear my thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved.

Richard Farrant 20-03-13 11:35

I was very sorry to hear about Charlie's accident when we were at the swapmeet, and others taken into hospital. Just received news about the other accident that happened on the way back from Corowa and saddened to hear of it after a wonderful week down there.

regards, Richard

Vale Mike Edwards

The participant that was killed on his way home when his vehicle apparently blew a tyre and rolled over a couple of times was well known VMVC member 57yo Mike Edwards of Victoria.

Information to hand is that Mike was travelling between Corowa and Yarrawonga in his Landrover and trailer when the accident occurred. It appears that no other vehicle was involved.

Mike was a regular attender at Corowa and enjoyed it very much, arriving days before the official start and staying on after the event. His large, rigid frame tent with boxes of bits and pieces for sale on the grass out front was like a drop-in centre for many of us.

Mike and his father Graham who passed away 18 months or so ago are a tremendous loss to the Victorian HMV scene.

Mike Edwards RIP

Hi all - for several years Ada & I used Mike's tent for our base of operations. We had great fun with him and his late father Graham. We said goodbye to Mike on Sunday morning and said see you next year. We are devastated at the news of the loss of such a popular and colourful man.

RIP Mike

I am still waiting on final details of the funeral arrangements for Mike Edwards. It is possible that it may be a private funeral for family. Peter McNeill shared the attached photo of Mike.

Thanks Jan, 182 vehicle entries, that's excellent .
And the trailers?? I estimated one on every 4th vehicle. Do you have a list?

Regards Rick.

Jan Thompson 24-03-13 09:54

Total Vehicle list is 183

I have just made an adjustment to the vehicle list as I was told Bernie Brooks had a Dodge Command Car at Corowa this year. One thing which is irritating is that people have arrived at Corowa without their vehicle and have put it on the attendance list. The other thing I have noticed by looking through my photos and photos on forums is that there are people who don't come and Enter their vehicle so in the future KVE would prefer people to preregister or if they turn up without preregistering come over and add their details to the attendance list.

This official vehicle attendance list is now 183. I will post the trailed items list shotly.

Thanks Jan, that could mean that there was one trailer for each 2.23 vehicles. But, there were 5 vehicles towing 2 trailers, 3 gun tractors with limber and 25pdr. gun, one Jeep with 2 Jeep trailers and one ex-Norforce Toyota troopy with 2 trailers, so the equation comes down to a trailer on every 2.37 vehicles.

The ultra rare Ford S1. Scout Car was a sight to see. One of only 2 known to exist. (not a clear photo as it was nearly dark.)

What a great theme 2013 had.

Thanks Keith. It wasnt put on the list unfortunately. I am hoping Euan will send me a report on getting all his equipment to and from Corowa as he put in a huge effort this year.

lynx42 24-03-13 23:29

Make that 3 Corio trailers. Colin Young also had one behind his F1 Inter 6x6 tipper.

Rick

Jan Thompson 25-03-13 00:06

It makes it difficult when people don't provide us with these details. I am amazed at some people who don't even know the year their vehicle was manufactured. One vehicle was signed in as a GMC US6.

Hi Rick,
I helped Jan collate the entered vehicles and trailers, and trailers especially were often lacking in details of make or type, so quite possibly counted in the total. Photo evidence from other forums is showing a few un-registered vehicles popping up.

We even had a 1943 Hotchkiss MB jeep entered !

Richard, I do not think that there were many, if any, unregistered vehicles on the road on Saturday. All of the ones I checked on had had an Unregistered Vehicle Permit issued to them. I had one for my trailer from Vicroads. There were a few trailers which fitted into the unregistered category. The concrete mixer and bomb trailer to name two.

Bob Schutt with the Ford S1. carried his on his tray truck as he had not obtained an unregistered vehicle permit for it.

This is something which KVE Inc. must keep an eye on.

Regards Rick.

Hi Rick,
When I wrote "un-registered", I was referring to vehicles or trailers not registered in with KVE for the event and not road registrations.
Regards,
Richard

Jan Thompson 25-03-13 10:10

I have just altered the vehicle list as I was informed that there were 4 mokes not 3 at the event. So now we can say 184 vehicles. Hopefuly next year if participants see a vehicle which doesnt have one of our vehicle numbers they will ask them to go to the Site Office or see us on Saturday at Bangerang Park or the Showgrounds.

Lang 27-03-13 03:17

Just a note on Charlie Anderson.

I went to his memorial service yesterday. It was quite a large hall with seating for a few hundred, people were standing all around the walls and there was a large crowd outside who could not get in. Good wake with lots of laughs. I was told numbers between 400 and 800 but whatever it was, Charlie sure had a lot of friends. Of that X00? I guess most of them would have been helped by Charlie either physically or with advice at some time.

His two sons now have the huge task of trying to stocktake all his vehicles, equipment and workshop machinery. A great loss to the old vehicle movement.

Hi Lang,
Thank you for letting us know how Charlie's service went. I first met Charlie on Back To The Track in 1995 and in subsequent years at Corowa. He had been in contact during the last year or so over the new truck he bought from the UK and I was able to assist him with technical information. We last spoke early this year. It came as quite a shock when the sad news came through at Corowa.
He was one of the characters of our hobby and will be missed by many I have no doubt.

RIP Charlie

regards, Richard

Jan Thompson 28-03-13 08:04

For those who know Dennis Taylor from Sydney. He was released from Corowa Hospital yesterday after being in for 9 days. His son will be going down to Corowa to assist with Dennis and Sandra's return this weekend.
