Another Mistaken Historian

Another English Historian who is degrading the memory of the Aussie Diggers who fought and died fighting the Japanese in the Pacific during WW2. :nono:

The anger seems to be based on the reviewer's comments and the book is not specifically about the Australian involvement. I can't see any direct quotations in Frank Walker's article which could be seen as derogatory. Is Walker known as a rabble-rouser ?

What I've read of Hastings in the past, he has always shown great respect for the fighting man, if not always for those in command.

To some extent I'll concur with you there, but while I haven't read all his stuff, Hastings has always come across (to me anyway) as just another in a long line of 'armchair analysts', and in this case, perhaps the same sort who criticised the Canadians' performance in the fall of '44 because conscription issues had severely depleted our front-line forces (never mind the gargantuan taskings assigned us regardless! )...

I have to confess this is the first I recall hearing about what now seem similar Australian conscription issues to those we faced towards the end of the war. Could one of you lot enlighten me, please?
