A bit of modern nose and aircraft art
Bit cheeky but apparently painted this way due to muslim belief of seeing naked women . That is what it said anyway :D

Vets Dottir 2nd 05-02-08 10:10

It's just a shadow silly :p ... the woman/women is/are standing out of view  :D

aj.lec 05-02-08 10:55

I bet there would be a lot of people that would like to meet the woman that throws a shadow like that:D;)

I linked to an image already on my site rather than uploading.

Will try uploading to see the difference.

Hi Karmen

Great site. :)

Mind if I add a bit of "Canadian Content"?

http://www.rcaf.com/6group/noseart.html

Just click on each Sqn listed. 6 Gp was a Bomber Command Group in WW2 that was predominantly Cdn.

http://http://www.rcaf.com/6group/41...ssPL-26188.jpg
From that site. The first Canadian built Lancaster "Ruhr Express".

regards
Darrell

Vets Dottir 2nd 06-02-08 01:22

Love the Canadian content ... pretty relevant to MLU hey? :D
And bummer ... I visited that site before, and just did again through
your links hoping to find the WANKY WONDER ... but still no such luck :(
The Wanky Wonder was a plane a friends Dad flew in WW2 ... he was with
the Snowy Owls and son and Dad were looking for pics ;)

BTW ... the last image you posted shows up as a little box with a red X in it so not viewable FYI ;)

Karmen

Vets Dottir 2nd 06-02-08 01:37

Darrell,

BTW ... I have some CD's sent to me, with tons of pics of planes and other things, including a lot of personal things on the CD (personal and family stuff ;) ) from a WW2 pilot:

Reg Miles:
Flight Engineer, No1SoTT Halton/ MUs/ Snowy Owls, 420 Sqdn RCAF, 6 Group Bomber Command, Tholthorpe, Yorkshire / 511 Transport Command, RAF ... i think he was with the 420/426/432 Squadrons ... have to check to verify if "432" is correct though ;)

If you scroll down to the bottom end of the page there are many links, to photos and other things, in a site that someone else put up about Reg's service. I'm sure that I have all the info and images that are posted, and then some, on the CD's Reg sent me.

http://members.aol.com/famjustin/Milesbio.html

Reg gave me his full and complete blessings to use the contents of the CD's in any way I saw fit and encouraged me to do so.

Karmen

Hi Karmen

Thanks for that info. Reg sounds like quite the fellow.

I actually just finished an excellent book about the RCAF efforts in the war. If this is the place to do so, I recommend No Prouder Place by David L. Bashow as a fine read indeed, on the Canadians in Bomber Command during WW2.

I did re-check it and a number of other sources (print and online) but had no luck with finding anything on Wanky Wonder. Sorry

I did find a request for info about it on the 50plus Forum tho; someone named yapster was askin'. Wonder if that's anyone we know!!! :D

Be well.

regards
Darrell

Vets Dottir 2nd 07-02-08 02:16

:p :D Yapster ... hmmmmm ... a blast from the past, there :D I'd forgotten about that old forum! maybe I'm wanting to be in denial about my old age?

Thanks a lot for your efforts to try find out anything about Wanky Wonder. I think it's impossible though as a few people have searched and come up empty regards Stu's old plane. I haven't been in touch with his son for about 4 years now since I moved from Nelson, so don't know how Stu is these days, though I wonder if he has passed away, as he had started having repeated strokes and was not good last I heard :(

Regards Reg Miles, quite the character and quite a sense of humor :D I haven't been in touch with him for years either as his email address no longer works and I don't know his "life" status these days.

You too, be well ;)

Darrell Zinck 07-02-08 02:16

Hi Again

I assume that the no-show of the pic was due to the fact that the site probably doesn't allow linking of their pics to other internet sites. Not un-common.

Here's the direct link to the pic I wanted to put up:
http://www.rcaf.com/6group/419Nosear...hrexpress.html
"Ruhr Express" was in 419 Sqn.

Also the Nanton Lancaster Museum in Alberta has a "Nose Art " section on their site:
http://www.lancastermuseum.ca/noseart.html

Worth noting s the UK's stance on Nose Art in their modern PC world:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...icle_id=460054

Not that it's likely to be allowed here in our Military!! I cannot ever recall seeing a modern Cdn a/c with female-oriented nose art. :(

Darrell

The Lancaster Museum link has Snowy Owls pics ... nice ...
no Stu (Carruthers - the pilot. A Stanley White was his navigator.
Stan passed away about 4 years ago I think it was) or Wanky Wonder pics though. ;)

Lancaster Flown by my Father, Flt/Lt. HHM Cave...

1 Attachment(s)
This is a Canadian build Lancaster Mk X, with 419 Squadron, KB 721, VR-B, Baker. The nose art is Linden Rose. I do not know why it is referred to as Linden Rose. Dad flew this aircraft from December 1944-February, 1945. Note that the plane under the bomb-bay doors is NA-P (428 or Ghost Squadron). It is now in the Aviation Museum in Ottawa.

My Father, Flt/Lt. HHM Cave, was the brother of Lt. JRD Cave, with the 23rd Field Regiment, (Self-Propelled).

Great web-site Darrell, thanks for posting a link to it. I thoroughly enjoyed scrolling through the pics and enjoyed seeing a Merlin engined Halifax, POISON from 434 Squadron. Most people think of the Halifax as a purely radial engined aircraft as most were built with the Bristol Hercules engine. Just as most associate the Lancaster with the Merlin V12 engine, a few, about 300 were built with radial engines. Derek.
