Does anyone know the length of a Chev Blitz spedo cable? I plan to get one made next time I get to Wagga. Thank you for any help. :kangaroo :kangaroo :kangaroo

Don't know off hand but

I can check tomorrow but I will warn you that Chevy Pattern 12 is different from Chevy Pattern 13. So which truck are you trying to determine?

Chevy Pat 13 Speedo cable length

Hi Cliff

I pulled the speedo cable out of my Pat 13 C60S this afternoon, the inside part which actually turns is 97 1/2 inches long.

The Pattern 12 Chevy C60L cable is 87 1/2 inches long.

I have three used cables sitting on the shelf without tags as to which truck they came off so sliding the cable out of the Patter 13 was the best way to find out which was which.

These cables have a thicker core than the civilian ones I have found. The transfer case end, have a special drive end. Do you have one to go by? I have gotten replacement cables from heavy truck parts suppliers outfits that specialize in big over the road trucks. Never had much luck with the normal automotive and light truck parts places.

Be very careful when you route your cable that you put the cable restraint clamps on particularly in the area of the master cylinder and starter, I had a speedometer cable chafe through on the brake light terminals get hot and then melt though the battery cable insulation that’s when the real fun started.

Cheers Phil

Thank you for the imfo. I am going to a specialist spedo shop and I have a broken drive end for a patern. When I contacted them they said they could make cables to match anything if I could take in the spedo and drive take off so they could match threads. :thup2:

Melbourne Speedo Cables.

I just had 3 new cables, inner and outers made for 3 White Scoutcars I'm involved with. They cost $68-00 each after I supplied the correct ends and screw on/in bits. Military cables are many and varied so make sure that you send the correct bits.

The firm is:-

Howard Instruments
110 Northern road,
Heidelberg Heights Vic. 3081
ph. 03 9457 4755

Hope this helps someone.

Regards Rick

Having new speedo cables made

Hi

A general comment about having speedo cables made or using a cut to length kit. Always remember a few inches to long is always better than 1" to short. Some of the cable routing on CMPs is none to generous in terms of curve radius. Particularly as it comes off the transfer case and as it passes from the engine compartment to behind the dash.

Cheers

Speedo cables

Hi Rick,
Thanks for the information regarding the speedo cables, as I require three of them it will be a big help to me, theres no doubt that this forum is the best thing since sliced bread for information, I will get some made unless someone here has some n.o.s ones that they can sell to me, for my carrier restoration,
Regards,
Ron
