Greenwich Mean Time

Hi Geoff,
Just like to point out the the time on this site is still set at British Summer Time, clocks went back an hour last weekend, to GMT.

Only noticed when I saw the time on the latest message.

Richard :D

Jon Skagfeld 30-10-03 05:58

Local time

Yeah, come on Geoff...forum still shows local time as if it were still EST.

We shan't meet at the proper grid reference at the proper jump off time with this information!

Time check, over...

Snowtractor 30-10-03 06:20

How about using...

...UTC or Universal Coordinate Time , or Zulu time instead;)

Time Zones

That's odd, because the time shown here is the local Australian daylight saving time for the East Coast, which only changed last weekend and I certainly did'nt change it. Does this new forum program automatically adjust to the user's local time, Geoff?

Jon Skagfeld 30-10-03 09:07

Time check correction

In my last post, read "DST" vice "EST".

Figured I'd better correct this before Sunray savages me unmercifully.

Using UTC, as noted, might bear some thinking about.

Richard Farrant 30-10-03 20:54

GMT ?

Hey Geoff,
The clock now shows GMT as being 5 hours behind.....it was an hour ahead yesterday.

Maybe GMT means something else? .......Geoff's Maple Time ????

Richard

Richard et al,

The system time is now set to GMT... go into your usercp and adjust your personal time from there.

Yes, the software didn't handle the change well, and it took me a while playing with it... but it seems if you set everything to neutral [GMT], it picks up the time from your PC clock? At least it works for me, but then again, I'm the boss.... :D

Try it and tell me what you find. You MAY have to reboot (I didn't, just refresh).

MLU GMT SNAFU?

Bah! What's happened now? The time was perfect, but now it shows 0630hrs when it's locally 1230 hrs. If I go into the user CP and change my location to GMT, it shows 2030hrs! Geoff , have you moved Greenwich to London, Ontario!?!

Hmmmmm, me too. I have moved Southampton, Portsmouth and Ike's HQ just down the road from here at Southwick House to Abu Dhabi too and now we will be on time for Overlord 2004 at Horndean.

Generally not to much trouble though:

Can see outside = fix radio systems and FV623
Can't see outside = eat and sleep.

Experienced world travellers

Well, following the above examples, I've set my time zone to Canadian Pacific time. Does this now mean I'm in for a cold winter and lashings of Maple Syrup? Nooooo! Take me back to Lithgow, Toto!

Geoff Winnington-Ball (RIP) 05-11-03 14:17

GMT

Actually, the software IS set for GMT now... I had to make that change because it didn't adjust after EDT changed to EST. Strange as it may seem, my PERSONAL options are set for GMT as well, yet the software is picking up my PC clock time in EST.

I'll continue to look into it.

Geoff,
Back on Islamabad time today, +5 hrs, time seems to go backwards and forwards, never quite know where I am.

Anyway, it will give you something to do on a cold winter night :p

Yeah come on!

Yeah come on now Geoff, times money and remember we up here are MDT (Mean Dundee Time) which is 5.25 minutes on from GMT.
And its bl--dy dark at 4pm

Dark?

Well, that's your problem isn't it? You wanted to live in the subarctic... :D

It was very strange today, because when I got home here, the forum time was an hour behind. It's trying to tell me I live in the Azores now.

Hope to look into it this weekend.

In the meantime, go out and pat your carrier for me, would you? And say hi to Waltie.

Unification story

Overheard on a Cdn Forces radio station shortly after unification;

Announcer: "And the time, for your Air Force jocks is 1400 hours, for you Navy types that's 4 bells and for the ground pounders in the audience Mickey's big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 2..":)

Have done so Geoff and he gives a paw back. We have a new addition. He is called Archibold Theodore Tigger Tum Watson, a carrier mascot if ever I saw one. At 10 weeks I need armour plate protection!

Better blow the candles out now!

Trying again

I've reset the software time but found I had to backup my USERCP time 1 hour... try yours.

I suspect the server - from which the software gets its time - has NOT reset from Daylight Time to Standard Time. I'll see what I can find out.

Indeed not Mr. Ballington-Winn, GMT has me on BST now, but whatever, I never did even know the time of day.

The Time

Thank God you got it sorted. 338 hits on a time wasting thread. I never had a time problem here. Up with the sparrows and down when I'm tired. No wonder nobody has time to visit us down under.

Anytime Bob
