I cant remember if we have a thread or similar on the forum or the best place to put it so i will go for broke and place it here. We are all aware of the part played by the fairer sex in the military spanning many years so to start here are two photos in WW2
1. Nothing will stop these lasses from playing withtrucks
2. Now that is some hand signal or is she about to give the instructer a good slapping

Mate with it's relationship to softskins (sic) I think these should be in the softskin forum and not here.

Good photos as most people forget there were many women in uniform doing this sort of thing then and now.;)

Hi Les

Great photos, now for a couple of questions for our group:

Who can identify the truck or trucks?
In picture of the Gals in the mud what do you think they are doing?
The Mud picture has all the looks of a staged picture for the camera, for a couple of reasons, they look to clean to have been working down in the mud for long, and the only thing they could be doing where the ends of wrenches are would be the axle bolts and why would you be checking them with the truck in deep mud.
In the second the gal looks so stiff, up right and proud that you have to think this is one of the first times she has been the driver.

But great photos, looking at these young Gals all I can think is they'd be my mothers age now (and for some of our group our grandmothers)

The first photo looks like a Morris Commercial CDF, note the road tread tyres on the back, bet some sadistic male driving instructor made them drive into the mud ;)

The second photo is an Austin K30 30cwt truck and it looks like the young driver is drying her nail varnish........her instructoir is not impressed, judging by his expression :)

The first one looks like they've just been posed there... the pic would also be an excellent candidate for the "in the background" thread.

An IWM picture. Taken in Northern Ireland and showing an early Matchless G3 - I can think of worse jobs than those empty roads and what was effectively a pre-war sporting 350
