Canadian Cap Badges
 

In connection with Glen's thread, and so as not to take away from it, I am posting this site on a new thread.

There are a number of albums of cap badges, collar dogs, and shoulder titles and all seem to be Canadian.

There is also a Family History Album, maybe someone knows of this family.

On the contrary Paul, Glen should be most interested in the site you posted as it contains the very collar dog he's looking for.
Described as; Royal Canadian Armoured Corps; Officers.
Interesting site, I did not go through every page however, everything I saw there was indeed Canadian. I found the School/University Cap Badges very interesting as I had never seen any of them before.

PS, PPS, the "Run Chicken Run" in that site address refers(not lovingly), to the Royal Canadian Regiment, one of only three Regular Force Infantry Regiments.

The nickname for the Royal Canadian Regiment I have seen before somewhere, more than likely on a thread on MLU.

I posted on a seperate thread not only to keep Glen's "on-topic" (if that is possible :blink: ), but also because I thought it may be of interest to others.

I have been through quite a few of the pages, and there has been a lot of work put into them.

To the Engineers, they were known as the "Rubber Chicken Regiment", a sobriquet which derived from the joke (no disrespect meant here, I'm repeating what I heard):

Hmmm, most odd as I have pics of Canadian Armoured Corps NCO's wearing the silvered version as well as owning the cap and collars to a CAC Officer (they're silver too).

I hadn't seen those bronze coloured ones before.

Trust you're all recovered from your trip to the sand-box.
I had some questions re: cap badges and I read your post concerning your collection so here goes.
1.On the site that Paul listed, under "cap badges (1920-52)", pg 11 shows the 2nd Armoured Car Regt. Is their another version, similar, but with a larger wing?
2. What do know of the unit who's capbadge is the head of an "Indian Chief"?
I'm sure it was a Recce/Armoured Car Regt.
Those two capbadges, along with the 'Roo capbadge have allways struck me as iconic design examples of that era. Very cool.

Ref your question about the 2nd Armoured Cars capbadge; I haven't noticed a badge with a bigger wing. They were a 1936 creation come about by amalgamating the 1st Machine Gun Squadron and the former 2nd Motor Machine Gun Brigade and fell under the category of Cavalry Regiment (Armoured Car) in the Order of Battle. One thing I've learned is there was wide variation on dimensions and construction of many many Canadian capbadges during that period. Do you have an example of the bigger wing one?

As for the Indian Head badge, I can only think it would be the 2nd/10th Dragoons. They were an 1936 Amagamation of the 2nd Dragoons and the 10th Brant Dragoons in the South Central Ontario Region. An example of their badge can be seen here: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...00953852hDiLBM

Yes, the Kangaroos badge is very unique for a Cdn unit. I fear though that it will be missing from my collection for some time if not forever. I just can't justify paying the price they go for. Maybe a repro will fill the hole.

I am not sure if I want to go down the road of starting to collect all the Cavalry/Armoured/Armoured Car/Tank/ Mechanized capbadges there ever were. :giveup
