Gerry's new carrier
My mate Gerry here in beautiful Kulin recently found this LP2A on a farm near here.
http://users.bigpond.net.au/blitz_trucks/Gerry1.jpg The carrier has been on this farm since about 1950. back then the farmer's sons used to use it for shooting kangaroos. When they grew up and left home, the carrier was parked under a tree. Gerry has know about it for many years but only recently did the owner decide to let him have it. Unusually hardly anything has been cut off the hull. Some of the armour from the gunner's position is gone, probably to make it easier to swing the rifle when roo shooting. Cheers Rod |

ID plate. Am I right in thinking that this carrier was built by SAR Workshops? |

The rear plate is missing as is the pioneer tool rack. Plate appears to have been torn off. |

Most of the engine covers are still there. Often these are the first things that the farmers used to throw away. Engine number is 2G49620F This carrier is in very good nick for it's age and circumstances. There are a couple of small rust holes in the floor under the gunner's seat but that is about it. Bob Moseley, I have sent you a PM with Gerry's details. Cheers Rod |

What a wonderful find indeed. Rod, please PM me details too for my Carrier database. :thup2: |
Check The Number
Hi Rod - thanks for all the information however you need to check the Hull Number. The plate reads #4389 whilst the painted number reads #4369. Either way it is a South Australian Carrier Model LP2A built in 1943 under Order Number MOS.170. Having Engine Number details is helpful but is it the original engine? Instrument panel shot would be nice.

The carrier didn't have an instrument panel. I did have one that I bought for $2 at a swap meet somewhere many years ago so I have happily donated it to Gerry. I'm a sucker for a worthy cause. Cheers Rod |
Another one
I went off today with Gerry to pick up yet another LP2A. This one is 3132. I will post pics very shortly.
Cheers Rod |
Carrier #3132
Hi Rod - this will be a Vic Rail manufacture listed as an M.G.2A under Order No. MOV.1228. Information ex. Armoured Fighting Vehicles Division Mech. Circular 307 dated 16 March 1942.

More 3132

Hull has been badly cut. Gerry is very happy with it because he just likes to save things. And it's got lots of bits and pieces that he needs for his other carrier. |

Loading the carrier onto the trailer was a bit agricultural. |

And then we just pushed it on. It was the first really warm day here in the West Aus wheatbelt, about 33 C. So I made sure that I got to operate the nice air conditioned Case loader while Gerry sweated it out around the carrier. |
