Our democracy in action

Listening to the ABC radio national, you learn things.

Did you know that there are businesses in Canberra that are paid to lobby polititians .People and companies pay these lobbying business , who then by stealth or any means .. try to persuade polititians into having meetings with , or consider policies that would benefit the said companies or individuals .. it was even admitted, if you pay enough , you get to meet a minister .

These lobbying businesses are staffed by ex beaurocrats and in some cases ex polititians who know the corridoors of Canberra intimately .They use their contacts and influence . This racket has been going on for decades ..all out in the open . The new Labur mob have passed a law which says that ex polititians have to wait 18 months before joining a lobbying busisness .

I must be nuts, but is this how democracy is meant to work .

They Ain't Too Bright in Canada

Paid lobbyists run in herds here in Ottawa, Canada's Capital city. One group hired one of our former radical Liberals to lobby the Conservative government for law enforcement use of a stun-gun. Either the group is stunned, or Liberals don't stand on principles...mebe both?

You just need to get on the right side of the system

Few years ago I was working in a state economic development agency here in New Hampshire, we owned two building near the state capital building we used to rent space to the lobbyist. But being good economic development types we charged them more than regular businesses and they never asked why.

By the way, speaking of being ridiculous, New Hampshire has just over 1 Million residents, while New Hampshire has the third largest legislative body in the English-speaking world. But to keep them humble we don't pay them.
