Flying Iltis
 

The "boss" made me go to Belleville today to get some new clothes for the wedding in Italy and the mud in Beltring. On the way back on the 401 an Iltis and trailer just blew past me doing 120 km. I sped up to check it out and see if the driver was familiar. It was driven by a woman. :thup: I didn't think those things could motor along like that.

The Iltis used to motor along very well on the long road moves, and the fuel economy was good as well. But when they broke down, that meant that they could be waiting 4 hours for the MRTs, located at the back of the convoy, to catch up to them.

The 2PPCLI used to complain that when they got the Iltis to leave the ground (hill jumping) that the motor used to stall out. There is a governor built in to the rotor. When the rotor reaches a predetermined speed, the weighted portion on top of the rotor moves out and causes the spark to go down the shaft of the distributer instead of to the spark plugs.

While defeating the governor will get you a bit more speed, it likely does not do your engine a lot of good without that protection.
