Hi
Does any know why there are, on some Humber hulls, a metal plate welded on each side, that runs form one end to the other?
There are no other difference on the to humbers and they are made in the same year?
Can any one help?

Cheers Niels

These strip's were a factory modification designed to protect the hull joint which was found to be a weak point if hit by a projectile.

In the box file at Bovington containing all the Humber manuals you will find a small booklet produced post war describing out the Humber A/C Hulls were made. It describes how one of the three manufacturers managed to strengthen this joint during manufacture without the need for this strip.

Ask Bovington for a photocopy if you are interested. There are not many pages.
