Hello I Have A 1944 Chev C60l That I Would Like To Restore And I Would Like To Find Out What Kind Of Box Or Body Should Be Fitted To The Chassis. Has Following Tags On Cab.

Hi Justin

As you can see from this Forum CMPs were very adaptable both in their war time and post war lives. How about a picture of your truck, in particular the back of the cab top, I ask this as there are some clues if it has any particular holes behind the drivers seat which might indicate a if it was a radio truck. Another clue is does it have braided metal ground straps connecting all the body and frame parts, this is also an indication of it having been a radio truck.

Both of my C60 Chevy came to me as cab and chassis so my bodies are ones that I found and fitted, in both cases they are US truck bodies similar in design to CMPs that have been adapted to dimensionally fit. Your location in Canada may widen your choice of bodies.

My `42 C60S is equipped with a radio box/shelter which is of a type used by Commonwealth forces. It makes a very nice camper to enjoy truck meets. My `41 C60L is equipped now with a drop side cargo body which turns out to be a very useful truck for hauling things.

Thanks for that one! I know of serial # 3844335064 which may have been built the same day or the day before on the lines at Oshawa, Ontario! It appears that the chassis was assembled by Holden's and I wonder if it was in the Adelaide plant as they did not it seems use "A" which was their plant code, whereas Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney used "B", "M", "P" and "S" respectively. However each plant had its own mind as to how the designation should be applied or not, so don;t quote me therefore!

Research Enterprises trucks
 

I think of Research Enterprises as a wartime group set up to develop radio and radar systems in support of the war effort. One of their projects had several groups of FWD trucks modified to make radar stations (generator, equipment, operators seating etc.).
This suggests that your C60L might have been a truck used in support of one of these radar setups, either GS or a specially adapted variant.
I know some of the group here have more information than I do on Radar support vehicles, perhaps they can help.
