Just when I thought I had a "killer" question ... the answer pops up on another section of the forum.
I was about to ask if anyone knew abut the "Lorry mounted excavator" which was one of the items of plant in an RAF Airfield Construction Wing; when Clif posted the photo below on the Softskin Forum. So come on ! who can tel me more - did the RAF use this samne model or did they have their own. P.S. hope you dont mind me borrowing your photo Cliff. Noel |

Just bumping this up because of a post by John McGillvray in the "History & Equipment" Section - Life Magazine topic
It's one of the Life photos and shows a lorry mounted excavator in British use in Italy http://images.google.com/hosted/life...2cb559c472073f The cab looks similar to a thew but I suppose it could have been "aquired" locally. Any ideas guys?? Noel |
I went through my collection of photos again and could only find truck mounted cranes on a few different chassis types and these included RAF types. I would say though, that if a chassis was strong enough to take a crane it would be logical to add the odd excavator instead :)
