Do any of our MLU historians know where I can get info on the artillery regiments that used the Sexton during the war. I need information to put the proper markings on my project.

Thanks, Perry

Perry, I will send you Herb Danter's email address as he was a FOO for a regiment that used the Sexton.
Cheers,
Barry

Perry, call and ask for the guy in charge of regimental history at the Guelph Armoury. The 11th FD regt was SP during the mid to late war years. I believe they were part of the 12FD Regt, maybe Mark T can enlighten us on this one.

Service Publications will be publishing "The Sexton in Canadian Service" in the next couple of months. In the meantime Perry, PM me with your e-mail addy and I will send you the unit info to assist you in properly marking your project.

Can someone direct me to a list of Canadian artillery regiments that used the Sexton in North-West Europe. I am in need of proper markings to apply to a Sexton II.

thanks, Perry

Perry, you need go no further than the 23rd Field Regiment, RCA. There has been plenty written about it here on MLU - do a search on it - and our own Herb Danter is a WW2 veteran of the Regiment. I'm sure he'd be delighted to assist you in whatever questions you may have regarding markings and equipment.

In the meantime, if you give me a day I can give you all of the stock markings for 23 Field from my reference materials. :)

23rd Field Regiment

Geoff,

I would certainly be interested in any info you have on the 23rd Field Regiment. This would add to the list of names and WD numbers in a post I made in the WWII History and Equipment section of the forum.

Cheers
Kevin

Not wishing to hi-jack this thread but, if there is interest, I could add a Sexton page to www.ramtank.ca which could then list this information as well as show those Sextons which can be identified by CS number.

Sextons

Clive,

Personally I think that is a great idea. I can add several numbers and names and with additional input a lot more can be identified.
Go for it I say!!

Cheers
Kevin

Thanks Geoff,
Any info on markings would be well received. Also, were Sextons ever given names.

Here are two pictures of Sextons I found on the internet. The first sexton is named Hyperride. The picture was from wikipedia. The second sexton appears to be named Beau Brummel. The picture is from the The World at War, show in Fort Nelson in 2004

kevinT 19-09-08 07:40

I think you will find.....

It is called HYPERIDGE.

Cheers
Kevin

On the other hand.........

You may be correct with HYPERIDES.

Richard F might be able to confirm the following, but did not they have a sexton on Gold Beach in 94 named Beau Bromul, a ww2 vet recounted how he took out a pill box. half way thru the dedication up rolled the sexton, really blew him away, they,d renamed it overnite to the one he,d driven on D Day.

Beau Brummel

Beau Geste and Beau Fighter are from 90th ( City of London ) Field Regiment I believe, to name but a few. Others such as Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum.

Cheers
Kevin

Perry, contact the historical officer at the 11FD Regt RCA at the armouries in Guelph.

This regt fought in NW Europe in the 25th FD Regt if I recall correctly. They fielded the Sexton for sure. I have seen regimental photos in the armoury as well as in the Guelph Legion. The Legion there has many photoes and memorabilia dedecated to the RCA as well as many vets...

Clive,
A Sexton page on your site would be a great idea!

Perry
