235 oil filter
 

Hi all, i have a 235 chev and i'm not sure where the external oil filter is piped to.I have read that only 15% of the oil runs through oil filter at a given time that is why you can't adapt screw on filters.Not sure? any information or better still a photo showing in and out oil galleries would be great. John Stokes

If I'm not mistaken there have been several good discussions of 216/235/261 oil filter issues in the past. Which someone will I'm sure post links to shortly.

I've just finished rebuilding both a 235 and 261 and the oil pump and filter piping is an issue. It is possible to convert a 235 which is a partial filter system to a full flow filter system, a conversion that if you are doing a complete rebuild you might want to consider. I did my 235 and it seems to work good.

I'm working on a page for my website about rebuilding these engines an the oil systems which I will try and finish up and get posted soon.

The Hammond Barn thread shows what they have been upto on this issue.

Congratulation on your choice of Chev CMP....hihihi

Have a look at the Chev Stovebolt site...... you need to ID your engine to see what year and model you have and what kind of oil pressure system....

If we can be of any help fire the question.... between what Phil and the Barn Queens have expereinced we should be able to sort it out....

Also check the ser # on the head behind the carb.

I have taken photos of the head and block cast numbers from the block number 3733949 i worked out it was a 1953-1955 vintage.
