trailer

I think this is the trailer Colin is pointing us to:

These trailers have gone up in value quite a lot recently.

Value?

The item sold for $510.

That is a significant amount of money for what remains a 1945 Ford trailer, no taillights, missing handbrake assy, floor requires replacing (with beaded original), plus 2 bar tread tyres (not including spare).. 2 litres of paint, a sandblast, etch prime, prime, topcoat, straightening, hood bows, canvas, stop light, mil electric connector, towing ring hitch, registration (in NSW) stamp duty...

Mike, I appreciate your photos on Jeepdraw,(http://www.jeepdraw.com) as the enabled me to decide that I could spend my hard earned $510!!! on another CMP.... Proportionately I think the price is too high, and a realistic price would be more like $300. bearing in mind I bought a registered 2 tonne trailer for $40 more than this price!! and I can tow a jeep on it.

Obviously someone is prepared to pay that much , but then again, Money is easy to spend and harder to earn... ;)

I would upload the photos as they are worthy of posting, but I am on my ancient computer and its a no go.. One wonders if it would fetch such a sterling price.

Anyone manage to buy it???

Jeff Gordon 24-09-08 13:41

Ian, As it is an Australian Type 4 trailer, they did not have lights or a hand brake or safety chains and they came new with those cross ply tyres.
It has the leg and looks like an original floor bung hanging from its chain.
Original solid rims(spare looks CJ), Brass tag not missing.
It is just missing the tow eye.
Looks fairly straight in the photo's.
I don't think it is too over priced.
How many in this condition are for sale today?
Just my 2 cents.

Enlightenend

Thanks Jeff,

I didn't know that..

I am just going from the Jeepdraw website..and Mike Kelly's info..

I am glad someone knows what is required. I had to add a freight factor (for me is a few hundred), and I still think it is overpriced. (trouble is I have two trailers already... that's a lot of money sitting in the rain, year in year out..)

I expect that there are a few dozen jeep trailers around.. certainly there are a few limbers... If the MLU thread readers want to PM me about a limber, I am keen to know.

Somebody mentioned recently that repro U.S. Willys/Bantam trailers or parts thereof ( panels ) are being made in the Phillipines now . Is that true ? After reading of the horror stories on G503... :nono: re: the dodgy fitting repro Jeep tubs .

And you thought $510 was too much

Hmm well that is an asking price...not a selling price.... A bit like some other popular classics which have 'reached' unbelievable prices....most is a fictitious price asked by the seller and not achieved in sales. And yes: I think for a 6x4 trailer it is a lot.. Regardless of the year. Mind you, 3x combat rims=$300.

It's in Victoria with a $400 starting price. Quite battered though. No connection.

colin jones 17-10-08 06:51

Its funny, people put these really high starting prices because they think that anyone who is into ex military machines and equipment will pay rediculous for them. Someone bought a good carrier on ebay for $15,000
Thats not bad considering its condition.
Colin.

Ryan,
Looks like what we call over here - a Humber Trailer.
That one is probabley a Sankey. Most here were built by Corio Air Engineer in Belmont Geelong around 1959.

It can be fitted with a seagull outboard motor [or similar small prop unit] and successfully navigated over slow moving rivers on its own, or paddled into lakes for fishing quietly.
It can also be backed into a waterway with the bungs open to fill up with water, then the bungs can be closed, the trailer brought out of the water and the tray heated by a gas element [not included] to create a hot bath for dusty travellers [don't forget the wood beams to sit on, or you'll be unable to sit for a while].
Paddled into lakes for fishing quietly, :yappy:
Have you ever tried to paddle one of these, they are a nightmare!!
Then he wants you to put a gas element under it :yappy: :yappy:
I thnk this guy is a used car salesman!

I am surprised to see a 1954 Dutch-made Polynorm trailer for sale on the other side of the world. Military vehicles are truly traded globally.
