Outback Blitz Collection

I was up in the Gulf of Carpentaria last week and stopped in a town of 50 population (the entire shire (county) is half the size of Tasmania and has 250 residents!). After driving up and down the streets - all 4 of them - I found 28 WW2 vehicles.

Impressive

Great collection of photos Lang. Some of those vehicles look to be in remarkable condition.

Lang 01-10-08 13:26

Ryan,

there were a lot more than I photographed. several are running. The carrier man was not home but his neighbour said it runs perfectly but has not left the shed for 10 years.

The cut down carrier has an old blue Ford Falcon 6 cylinder and auto box - I think this would be a pretty good conversion with about the same or slightly more hp than original and no problems with the original horrible gearbox.

Carriers

Hi Lang - I have #3973 already recorded. Did you get a Hull Number of the cut down Carrier?

Vehicles

What a happy hunting ground!

The first Blitz is a No8 CGT!

Lang,
What a find !.
It still never fails to amaze me as to how many vehicles are still out there. Looking at some of the vehicles, it would appear that at least someone is trying to help a few of them. Correct me if I am wrong, but a lot of the 15cwt versions appear to be on 20 " wheels. Would this make them ex gun tractors or portees ?
Do you have any plans to save any of them ?
Regards
Keith

The other SWB

The other Ford on 20" wheels appears to be a F15A, the green Chev is possibly a C15A with a different fuel filler spout like a cab 12 gun tractor, and this one is a C15 or C15A Wireless Signals cut down.

Keith,

No I don't have any plans to do something with them. It seems I should have taken more photos as there was stuff on the ground and in heaps everywhere.

Just an interesting collection that would cost a lot more than they were worth to recover. The carrier might be a go if you were so inclined but I did not get to talk to the owner so who knows if he will sell.

Bob,

Sorry I did not get any more numbers.

Lang
