Mk1 Canadian carrier instrument panel
4 Attachment(s)
Hi, On the Mk1 Panel there are three swiches above the switch box, I understand the top right is labelled : off, side. the bottom one is labelled : off, tail. what is the top left one labbeled as : off, ??????. :confused I have attached a picture of said panel, has any one got a Canadian instrument light, they want to swap for a British one?.

The three switches are labled as follows from L-R, T-B
1 Off, R.S.Head 2 Off, Side 3 Tail, Off Switch # 1 is for turning your RS Headlamp on or off indepentanly from the other headlight. Switch #2 is for turning off the side/"parking lights" in both headlights. If you look at the early wiring diagram the headlights are shown with two bulbs in each unit. The main bulb would be your standard driving and the side would possibly be your blackout one or low light one. Switch #3 is for turning the tail lamp on and off. However keep in mind these are to allow the driver to operate the lights somewhat independantly from each other. You would still have to use the main light switch below the ignition switch. On my wiring diagram is has a note pertaining to this. Quote:
The wiring diagram in the Maint. Manual is for a later style of Mk1* wiring. There are only two switchs on the dash and the third is moved to the back to control either the tail or the new addition, a convoy lamp. Quote:

I think you just put up a great post. When I get what you said in my head, I'll know. (If you know what I mean)
Just remember the English switch (main with Ign.)has only 3 positions, whereas the Canadian switch has 4 positions. (Have I got that right?) I'd credit the owner of the image, if I knew whose it was. |

I think you may have the switch descriptions the other way around. To me the Cnd one is the one on the left. The Brit one is on the right. At least that is how Dirk has them listed on his site. It is odd that the one only goes up to "S&T" whereas the other has "All" |
Hi, Thanks for the info, I have been racking my brains with regard to the Mk1 Canadian instrument panel, :bang:I am at a loss to how the cables are clamped to releve the stress, I know on the Mk1 British carrier there is a wooden clamp which holds all the outgoing and incoming cables and the Mk2 has a terminal block. There does not appear to be any holes drilled in the Mk1 Canadian to have such an arrangement and I dont believe they are just left unsupported. Can anyone help please :confused.

Michael,
That Cole Hersee lamp looks exactly like the interior lamps in production Ram tanks. I used to have some. I have no doubt that the Canadian carrier part was the same. Well done for spotting the origin. David |
Just be aware that Cnd carrier dash lamps used two wires.
