Carrier Contract

I believe I asked this question before without reply, but does anyone have any information on contract SM1447 (see attached pictured) because from memory it does not appear in Nigels book.

I assume also as this is a SM Contract that this Carrier was ordered for British use.

Now I'm curious too as that is just before mine. What month was it built?

Neil Ashley 21-10-08 13:27

It says March on the plate but that would mean at least 428 carriers were built during March. Seems rather a lot.

The real date should be on the top edge of the armor in front of the driver. It says the month, day, and year.

Ledsel

The full date is the 11th March 1944.

Production rates

In the 14 days separating your carriers it would appear that there were 428 carriers built or 30 to 31 per day.

At this point in the war the process would be well established so the question for our production experts is, "is 30 to 31 carriers a day reasonable?".
