LP2/2A Carrier found
 

Out and about in this fine spring weather, came across this forlorn LP2 or 2A carrier hull sitting in a paddock. Couldn't find the owner about and the property had an electric fence for the cattle (or is that for the border raiders?), so it wasn't possible to get closer pictures than these telephoto shots from the boundary.

Looks to be a complete uncut hull. The airscoop is sitting on top of the crew compartment. Couldn't see any track or wheels anywhere, but could be stacked on the opposite side for all I know!

How did I find this? It's in a yard full of rubbish that's visible on Google Earth! :eek: :D

And quite rightly so. As I have stated before, unless one has the owner's permission, publishing details like this is tantamount to an invasion of privacy. One day someone will be taken to court and charged with Trespass over this sort of thing. Even Google Earth could be held liable for providing a Trespass mechanism.

I seem to remember almost exact pictures some months back by a collector who was already negotiating the purchase of said vehicle.

I wasn't able to speak to the owner of the property, so I don't know the "Market" status of the carrier. May very well have just been sitting there awaiting collection. Do you remember the thread, Ian? :confused As you say, interesting that it is sitting there, I thought it would have been rescued by a restorer by now, or if the owner doesn't want to sell (I'll do it up one day!), that he hasn't put it out of sight to reduce questions. :no4:

Well, "softly, softly, catchee monkey" has worked again and this carrier has now been recovered. I say carrier, but it's really just a nice complete hull with no wheels or track. No brass data plate, but the numbers will be down in the mud and rust somewhere and will be revealed soon enough.

Recovery was effected by a Chinese hand winch and steel bars to use for rollers, just the same way the Egyptians built the pyramids. Who says you need expensive gear to play with Carriers?

Great Pics, is it a bare hull? or are there bits and pieces inside? thats a nice find I had been waiting to see if it had been recovered,
