Universal Carrier Mk.2*

3 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone, I have owned a Universal CarrierMk.2* for about 28 years. It was owned by a well known film hire company before I bought it. One film I know that it was in was A Bridge Too Far.I suspect that it never saw any service. There is a plate under the Ford of Canada plate which tells that it was built Oct. 1944. I am now going to try and put some pictures of it on this page.

Hi John,
Now that is a nice machine that you have, thanks for posting the pics of it,
Regards Ron

Glad you like it Ron. When I first took it out People were just as interested in the 80 watt charging set as in the carrier itself. If anyone would like some pictures of the charger I will take some and put them on. John

nice carrier matey, thee is a shot on bridge too far with a carrier in convoy going over the Bridge, its when the Germans are tying to blow it and it does not go up......wonder if it was yours ;)

Bren carrier

Ithink that the carrier you saw in The Bridge Too Far is the one I have. The Vehicles for the film were supplied by Baptys of London. In the early 1980 I bought 19 of their vehicles. The German vehicles I bought were all in the film. If you look near the beginning you will see the Dutch boy riding along the canal bank, he comes accross a German sentry and during this shot you will see a Type 40 Horch, it also appears right at the end coming over the bridge with I think, some prisioners aboard

fantastic !

Shaun is in Suffolk, Kevin is near Lowestoft, Martyn is near Lincoln, Barry near London. All have a number of carriers, then there is Me at Newcastle and Nige up North near Dundee. I am sure there are others but these guys are the ones who have made contact with me.

so plenty folks around on our rock to give a hand if its ever needed.

martyn is simultaneusly rebuilding two carriers together, both severe basket cases, one has been scratch built from a pile of wheels and track, so plenty of skill about to help especially if you ever have cause to fabricate anything.

John if you are on Facebook pm me your email as there are tonnes of pics there of the lads and they're carriers

The one I bought belonged to Bart Vanderveen.I think he wrote an article about finding it . In the second issue of Wheels and Tracks.I should add that I did buy a HUA in with other vehicles from Baptys, the info on the HUA came from Peter Dinely so maybe the one I bought was yours.Does the attched picture look like the one you used to own

Hmm...I've seen that shape before. What does HUA stand for? A friend wanted to sell me this truck but the steering wheel is on the wrong side. You can tell I'm new to this :) :)Phil

C8A HUA with registration 550 CPC belonged to Bart Vanderveen, who initially refurbished/restored it while he lived in England.
Via an unknown number of owners it ended up with Ian McCallum, who fully restored it.
It was then sold to Nick Bullock in 2003.

Hanno

John

Nice to see your Carrier in 43rd Recce markings. That makes three Carriers including the two in the LHG.
Mine is currently located near Shepton Mallet.

To be 100% correct you need the large Chorehorse Generator in your Carrier. From memory the 80 watt model was developed late war for use with the 22 Set. This was not a normal fitment in Carriers.
