swing down armour
Hi all, I have a question which has been puzzling me. There is probably a simple answear. so here go's, on the UC there is the swing down armour which mounts over the bit you poke the bren through, you know what i mean. when this is positioned in the swung over open position it seems to fit perfectly level, how is this?. i know there is a double coil spring washer washer on the hinge pin, but recently on you tube i watched a clip of UC's being used for training, have a look on youtube great vid. They all sit perfectly level when open, does every commander carry a spirit level to check the wedge armour is dead level when open or is there some kind ok mechanical stop.
:confused |
Hi, The title of the youtube clip is 'south alberta regiment bren training'.
it worth watching better than most of the rest, they look a little sheepish in some of the shots. You can see what i mean about the swing armour. :salute: |
Kevin are you talking about the triangle section on the left gunners plate ? or the actual bent metal gunners plate which slots over the gunners apperture ?
if its the first i thought there was a cast peice which the plate sits against when open ? or technically.....in the lowered position |
I'll post some pictures of this part to show you how it works tomorrow or tonight.

I have attached a pic of a mates carrier plate which gives me a clue, never seen it on another carrier. |
two guesses says thats Marty's i noticed a flap on the plate which is usually solid, was not sure what that was all about.
also spoke to Rob for you and no probs with what we had organised ;) just msg me on facebook if you want further info |

Here are the pictures of how the Gunners plate pivots on the front armour. Ive tried to get it in all of the positions so that you can see how it works. Basically the bolt that holds the rifle holder to the front armour has a part that sticks out on the front side. The gunners plate then pivots off of the big screw and stops up against the end of the bolt.
I'll let the pictures explain the rest. |
