1944 4x4 Morris Commercial GS in WW2 & Korea
3 Attachment(s)
Has any one got any photos of the 1944 Morris Commercial GS 15 cwt 4x4 trucks in use in WW2 or Korea or at any time in Army use. From 1944 untill 1958 when they were sold out of the British army. The 1944 Morris was made at the end of of that year Oct Nov Dec?. cant find any WW2 photos of them used then, maybe they just missed it or were to late to reach the war front.
As i own a 1944 Morris it would be good to see some photos of them in use.. I have these 3 photos and 3 from the IWM dont know if i can put them on, copyright? |
Hi Keith
C8 GS pictures are scarce. But funny to see that middle picture - I have the same one in my collection. It says on the back "My old room mate Jock and myself on the truck I drove to Victory Hill". A couple more here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/photosn...ie/2367867855/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/photosn...ie/2368699636/ |

A few more photos that i have. here is the other one with Victory Hill range, must be in Canada, wonder if they left them there?. one photo of Morris commercial trucks at Larkhill in 1953 towing a mortar and my Morris with one from the Artillery museum that they lent me for 1/2 hour. did not have time to put it on the right way. Would be nice to find one :thup2: On the first photo the morris has 94 OBS or 94 UBS + HQ 1, does any one know what that is.

G,day Keith
Now i have always been under the impression that this photo is of WW2 origen with its number Z5811784 am i right. Thought you might like the others in your collection the one on the slopes is in Korea im not sure whats going on but just in front of the near rear wheel is a snatch block so i gather the truck must be driving some sort of lift arrangement, both sides look to be rigged the same The last two are dated 1948 and show the 4x4 with wooden body loaded with a 3.7in RCL cheers Les |

Thanks les for the photos never seen them before. 1st photo is a late 1944 Morris as it has the all metal body and the doors are not flat but have a pressing in them to make them stronger with a metal frame. The first 1944 morris trucks had a wooden body and part wood frame for the doors and part wood cab,[inside]. Morris 4x4 trucks came as GS, Wireless, Light Warning and Compressor. my dad [ EX RASC Sgt ] WW2 vet, said they were the worst truck in the British Army. :whinge. the 3rd photo the Morris looks to be towing a Airborne fold up trailer. Last photo, you do not want to spend a lot of time in the back of the Morris, no seats and very hard:wacko:

Morris GS
Hi
I got some pic´s of Dansih Army ones if you are interested. Best regards Brian Brodersen |
as you know after WWII there was a vast conspiricy by ford, chevy, and bedford to clean the world of any and all pictures of the best truck of WWII (44 morris). all the governments of the time got together and devided up the world, made the iron curtan, and covered up the great things that the morris did. so good luck and watch out for the black helos

Some 1944 Morris C8 GS photos. some from my photo collection and some from websites, any one have any more photos of them :)

Is there any evidence of the Morris seeing any war-time active service as some people describe them like the Austin K6's as being effectivly post-war vehicles due to their late war introduction dates.

1944 Morris C8 GS
Hi Neil, I have only seen two photos :( of them in 1945, one was in a victory prade in Germany with a RA Rgt, that was in Wheels & Tracks Mag and one in the UK in devon, apart from that i have not seen any in war time use, at best they were used 6 months before the end of the war. most photos i have seen have them used in Korea. :)

Hi, I’ve been looking up the Morris GS 8 as well. Period images seem as rare as rocking horse poo.
I typed in Malayan Campaign, this was the only image I found. AWM 011486 |
