Damaged Sherman Excavated in Libya

Gentlemen:

I ran across these interesting pics on another site and thought that they might also be of interest here. The story is that recent construction activities near Tripoli, Libya led to the discovery of a buried Sherman. It is obviously badly damaged. Was that due to combat action or was this one a practice target? Who knows....I would have thought that all of the old armor in the desert was long gone to the scrappers by now.

Regards,
Charlie

Last one. The engine appears to have gone MIA.

where the original source was not mentioned.

Hi Charlie,

Thatīs alright, itīs obvious you meant no harm. Iīm sure you agree it is a matter of courtesy to the man who took the pictures and gathered the information.
