Who has master parts catalogs in the group
 

Hi All

Just reading through some threads and noted that part numbers are always and issue. Was wondering who has what master parts books and would be willing to help look up stuff.

I've got

• US Chevrolet Chassis Parts and Accessory Catalog that covers US cars 38-67, Corvette 53-67, 1/2-2Ton trucks 38-55 and 1/2-1ton Truck 55-67
• General Motors of Canada 1938-1951 Truck Parts Catalogue

Just a thought for sharing resources.

Grant is now the official Mr. Manual and is already adding to his collection...

I have the 1958-59 Chevy truck parts manual.... which comes in handy when looking up 261 parts..... and also the 1955-57 Chev GMC parts manual.... I amy turn them over to Grant to add to his collection.

Also acquired some Carter carb manual covering late 1930s to 45 and some from the 40s to late 50s..... they include various military models..... 2 to 4 pages per model.

I assume you are looking for the cross reference books as used by autowrecker's to cross reference make and models that may use the same parts, ie Carburetors, transmissions, axle's, wheel brgs, fuel pumps, etc ie Ford and Chev may use the timkin bearing's, clutch assy or even the transmission, or head light switchs etc. is there any particular years you are looking for and is this for trucks or cars or are you interested in all publications.

Gordons, I know the type of manual you are desribing, they let you enter by one model and find what other makes and models used the same parts. One brand name I know of in this field is Hollanders Interchange Manuals, did the Mitchell series of shop manuals also do the same thing?

I think the Master Parts Catalogs that Phil is describing were published by the automakers and covered a range of years and models. An exampe is the "Master Parts Catalog" published by Chevrolet for the "1929-1948 Six - Cylinder Models". This only deals in parts described in the Chevrolet system.
Using horns as an example, there are 11 models listed in the years covered. They include some that were one year only, others used for 10 model years, high and low notes, some that were for few models, some that were for "all".

Jim Sewell just raised and interesting point on http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...d=1#post111294 "The 216 engine that was used in the chev blitz was made in Canada from 1937 to 1945 and this can be identified by having a single hole from the water-pump to the block and having dome top pistons .

This same engine was produced in the USA from 1937 until 1940/41"

It illustrates the use of master catalog as well as the cross over books such as Hollanders Interchange Manuals (these I believe are now available on CD).

Jim's point about changes in piston design is illustrated in the scans of the parts book page attached. The first two are from the Canadian Chev Master Parts book and the third is from a US Master Parts book note that the US one list the prices in 1967.
