Humber Scout Car MK II
Ok, here is the newest family member, she will be coming to the states after the dreaded form 6 gets back.
1944 Humber Scout Car Mk II Pics for your enjoyment... http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r...view=slideshow |
Very nice
Personally I'd ditch the hideous wing mirrors and replace the one piece of plastic hose in the engine compartment, but apart from that I've not seen anything nicer for a while.
Relatively straighforward to own and maintain too, and not hard on the pocket as regards fuel - good choice. |
Humber
Thanks, we must have the same taste and thoughts , the hose definately needs to be replaced, funny thing though, that is the 3rd Humber that I have seen with the same type of hose.... The mirrors are WAY to big....definately need the smaller ones, need to make sure if I switch to the smaller ones that I can see while driving though. Don't want to hit anything and scratch the paint...
Cheers... Lance |
Way to go, Lance! :thup2: Good find... are you back from the sandbox in time to take delivery of her? We'll love to see pics of both of you "operational"... :)

I never expected the underside to be an open ladder frame. My feverish mind expected an enclosed monocoque, like a Ferret. This makes good sense, not as a mineproofed vehicle, but as a bullet and shell resistent vehicle.

Humber Scout update
Well the Humber arrived last January 2010, had some issues with the engine and some other areas, fuel system, electrical etc. Long list of things that needed to be redone or updated for safety issues....Currently it is getting a engine rebuild, some metal work to the interior, making map box, first aid bracket with sten mag holder, black out plate for the rear and some other goodies. New pics here.

Humber Update
Well all of the interior goodies that were missing have been painstakenly reproduced (minus a few ones that will be made after she is on the road), the drivers port was made from scratch and turned out beautiful!! Fabricated the tyre pump holder and oil can holder for the engine compartment. I still need to find a proper speedo and wiper motor. The engine was a complete rebuild with 0 hours on the clock now, new pistons/rings, gaskets, crank shaft balanced etc. Generator, starter were all rebuilt. It has all new cloth coverered wiring and I redid the instrument panel with colored wiring for trouble shooting. Proper tyres were found and will be on soon. The engine compartment is getting a wipedown then a respray and the engine will go back in. Then the interior will get a respray and then on to the exterior.. After a 1+ year rebuild, I am hoping to have her on the road by the end of the year!!!!

ITS ALIVE,,,it has been running for a few days, just finishing up some minor leaks, did some external markings today, starting to put in some interior goodies.. Still have to fix the temp gauge and amp gauge. All of the lights function per the book, need to do some touch up painting after everything is bolted back in. Going to take it on a test spin and hopefully to a event this weekend!!! |
Beautiful!! Be sure to post some photos from the field. Congratulations! :salute:

Well over 3 years later and I can honestly say she is almost done, had to just fix a cracked water pump and bad ignition coil, have some minor leaks from tranny and a few other locations, nothing major, but hey she is British, so what do you expect.
OK well decided to do a few field modifications to her, so today had a step made and grab handles. Need to tidy up the engine compartment, touch up nicks and scratches in the interior etc. after redoing the tranny and radiator, sandblasted the jack and accessories today, will get primed and painted, the brackets to hold them will go in in a few weeks when they arrive, have to make the holder for the jack handles etc, that are located towards the bottom of the engine compartment on offside. Still trying to find a few more goodies, like the inspection lamp bracket, pretty much have written off a binnacle for now, looking at a modified PLM mount (field mod) and a few other goodies. Have about 95% of the CES kit for it so she is almost 100% complete per what is required per the books, then maybe a few shows and possibly over across the pond for some events in 2014!!!! |

More fun, ahhh so this is what you do with 5 carbs... get them all good and have them ready to change out... Also pics of the finished gauges and dash... Also modifying the jack holder in the engine compartment for the larger harvey frost jack...
|
Lance, did you need to source parts (diaphragms and gaskets) for the Solex carbs?
The early british carrier carb uses the same choke assy and I wondered if bits were still available. |
Lynn all of my carbs were NOS, just going through them and checking them out and modifying 2 to use with my HSC since I don't have the 2 speed control box and these are really not the correct ones for the HSC. I picked up all of them off of Ebay a few years ago, my mechs have made the gaskets etc. if I needed something new, Do you need some parts, diaphragms etc.?
