Yet another auction
....and again in Victoria, Aust! :(
Alex Scott Auctions Ominously, the collection is described as over 200 tons of scrap! |
Dodge Power wagon and a Blitz semi with bow fronted trailer as well but I feel the auctioneer is correct :bang:....200 tons of scrap!... most of the trucks look like parts only propositions. Maybe another case of years of "oh I'll do that up one day"! :no4:

Chevrolet K 44 Earth Augur truck
in one of the attached pics too.

dodges
The WW2 Dodge pictured looks like one of the ex Mt. Baw Baw ski field buses . They are 3/4 ton weapons carriers with chassis extended , and with a bus body fitted . The drivers were usually students on part time jobs during the ski season , driving skiers up the the slopes of Mt. Baw Baw... and the trucks were thrashed ! The mountain is local to me and there was another of the buses in town here for years , they were overall yellow. BTW there is snow on Mt.Baw Baw right now ... the earliest heavy snow fall for decades... even a ski lift running I believe.
I think the Chevy post borer Gordon spotted is probably the one from Pakenham, there was one sat in a yard there for many years , visible from the main highway into town. There was another one , actually still on the road in the late 70's , around Ferntree Gully, it had reg. prefix JJ from 1946. Mike |
Mike, with that early snowfall on the mountain maybe we've licked global warming.

Auction today
Well it was a small reunion of MLU members and Corowa attendees at Nar Nar Goon today. A great catch up.
Plenty of very rusty CMPs and other period trucks. Scrappies were out in force. Well no photos at the moment because my card reader isn't working but can people tell me, what did the Dodge weapons carrier go for? And the rear engined CMP chassis/crane go for? I left with an overburdened Falcon before hand. Forgot all about them. |

Here some pictures.
The Dodge weapons carrier. What was the price? The rear engined CMP chassis crane. The bargin of the day in my book. A M3 Grant tank track and a M3 Stuart tank track. $220. A Generator trailer with a bunch of POW can holders and Jack holders. It could hold six I think! Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the scrappies get this?? $480? And some of the canvas window covers shared between Keith, Euan, Colin, Julian, an unknown buyer and myself. |
Catch up

Did you notice anything unusual about CMP chassis crane? The axles are wider because it is a FOX armoured car chassis. Don't recall exactly how much it made but was well under $1k. The scrappies got almost all the CMPs as well as NOS Studebaker parts. The Dodge was likewise very cheap but I don't think the scrappies got it. Incidentally they were very compliant chaps, letting collectors buy when they thought it better something deserved to be restored. The searchlight trailer was a beaut but the scrappies got it. More soon including some pics. I took heaps! |

Thanks Keith.
Fox chassis? Is that the same as the 8446 Rhino chassis? Some more pics. My Falcon with a full boot. One of the many ex-israeli M37s. Blitz with a trailer. Missed the price. An example of what most of the Blitz's looked like. And the best of the lot. $820. F30s? |
Auction results
Hi All,
Hope quite a few of you who went to the auction rescued something  Did anyone see what the Rogers float and Cat D4 went for? Any pics of the Rogers? Was this the property beside the hotel that had a Stuart tank with very unusual markings in the corner of the paddock pointing at the Pub? Also the Auctioneers site had a photo which included what may have been a yellow painted compressor on 4 wheels. Did anyone checkout what it was? Keith will you be putting a lot of pics up on your site? Thanks & Regards Alex -- M3 Grant, Val, Ferrets, WM20, CMP's |

The yellow one was a late production F60L I think. The one with the simulated bow front trailer was either an ambulance or No6 arty tractor as it had the speaking tube in the back of the cab. |
A few pictures
Here's a link to a few images I've put online, including our own Rynoki. You'll also find the Rogers trailer, searchlight trailer and lots more.

I also attended an auction sale today at Griffith although I was too cheap to buy anything, hauled a trailer there and back for nothing buta day out
The Chev engine sold for just over $800, the oil was clean but no aircleaner for over three years. The pile of rims which contained 5 20" blitz rims and the other blitz rims were bought by a Farther/Son from Wagger area who are doing up a blitz, they have my number so I hope to catch up in the future. The rest of the ford gear went to restorers. The chev diffs, ger box and transfur case were not for seperate sale as they were included with the prune harvester. I also found out that I have passed the bug on, after seeing my blitz at the Batlow show a local has bought a blitz and is scouting for parts to restore it, again I hope to have future contact. |
A rhino!
Ahh crap. I would've bought that. Bloody forgetful brain. Think happy thoughts.
" A leg out of bed". Great title Keith, I saw that too and thought damn! That photo of me looks like I should be selling fruit and veg. " 2 dolla, 2 dolla a kilo!" |
push me pull you
so what did the Ausys cloth the rear engined powered CMPs with.

A nasty smash
This late production F60L had obviously been involved in some rough stuff, the nature of which isn't entirely clear but looks to have involved a roll-over.

How about this? |
rear engined CMPs
Forgive me if this has all been covered, no doubt it has.
Ours have an interesting history as well Keith, Originally intended as a lightly armoured observation vehicle, I don't think any saw active service in WWII. A few (how many Lynn/Rob?) went to Korea as Gun tractors. Post war the armour was removed and the majority were tuned into off road fire fighting units. I think more survive in this guise than as original units. The hulls were placed into a river as part of the river retention scheme. At least 2 hulls have since been removed from the river. I got to drool over Waiouru Museums one last year;http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...ouredCar-2.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...rmouredCar.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...arinterior.jpg |

There was quite a lot of work required, the sort if thing beyond the average restorer but if Colin had bought it he would have it in top shape in a couple of days. :p |

Ha! Nice.
As for the Rhino, oh well. I would have been in trouble when I got it home anyway. |
nar nar gone ( 1960's pop song )
It was a hot topic discussed at yesterdays VMVC swap day at Upper Beaconsfield .
One auction attendee commented on the sneaky tricks .. eg, included in a pallet of old tyres or otherwise uselss junk .. a nice collectable thing was dumped on top , this was designed to lure the buyer into buying the whole pallet .. thus the buyer had to remove the pile of junk saving the vendor many trips to the local tip where tyres cost a small fortune to dump . The ruse wasn't wholly succesfull however as some just sneaked off with the gem they purchased and left the junk behind. Somebody said the ex Baw Baw Dodge went for about $300 ..I cannot confirm this, its just what I heard. Not much on offer at the VMVC swap day ..didn't spot any blitz stuff except for a cab 13 type front parking light . And WW2 era mosquito nets ... and stuff like that . The turn out was effected by the miserable weather ..drizzle damp . One member arrived on a pushbike , all the way from Mentone ! He caught the train to Pakenham and rode the rest ..... now that is a keen member mike |
