UNRRA vehicles and survivors
The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA), organization was founded during World War II to give aid to areas liberated from the Axis powers. A sum of nearly $4 billion was expended on various types of emergency aid, including distribution of food and medicine and restoration of public services and of agriculture and industry. China, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Italy, Poland, the Ukrainian SSR, and Yugoslavia were the chief beneficiaries.
As documented in various issues of Wheels & Tracks magazine, part of the aid was the distribution of ex-military vehicles for civilian use, many of which were CMP trucks. One of these has just come to light in Austria. Remarkably, this F15A still carries "UNRRA AUSTRIA" on its side. - Hanno http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/at...1&d=1241529228 |
