Early 11 Cab recovery
5 Attachment(s)
Some photos of an early 1940 11 cab C15 recovery yesterday in Nova Scotia. The new owner should be joining the forum shorty.
Pretty much all complete aside from missing the box, used to deliver mail in rural NS, kept in a barn for years until the original owner passed away, the previous owner disasembled to restore and lost intrest. No rust on the sheet metal except for the door panels, nice to see on the East Coast! All data plates are there, apparently one of the first 3000 made? Enjoy the photos... |

Data
I would love to know what the plate says the chassis number and engine number are/were. Sound s anice find and a nice project!

That's a nice project. It'll need a 2A1 box like I built for mine. It also looks like the centre section of the rear end is removed. If he needs rear end parts I have a couple of spares.

Nice projet :thup2:
And i think you found a willys nes  |
Quite the find
That is quite a lucky find, parts in the picture look to be clean and ready to start working on. Next question how are you jig saw puzzles? Putting a vehicle that someone else disassembled will be an interesting challenge. Keep us posted on the progress.
Cheers Phil |
Great find and great project!
I am surprised to see a yellow dash housing.....my C8 has a yellow dash as well. Am I missing something.....Just a coincidence? Or did Chevrolet use a run of yellow dash housings back in 1940? Alex |

Not sure where to check on the block for the serial #. Is there a frame # stamped somewhere as well? |
Congrats.......
..... I hope it included the assembly manual.......hahaha !!!
If I can be of any assistance... mine is a C15a but I took mega pictures during the disassembly........ and Phil has quite the repertoire also.... I wonder what David Hayward can tell us about the manufacturing date by referencing the engine and body serial numbers....... Good luck and keep the pictures coming..... Bob C. |
Congratulations to him :thup2:
Looks like an excellent ,near rust free project project to start with  |
Serial number ?
Interesting truck. My 1940 C-15 Has a serial number of 0842109189, about eight thousand higher than yours. The interesting thing is my engine number,2789696 is very close to your number of 2789612. I wish my truck was in as good a condition as your truck is.

How about some pictures......
Are you goona show us pictures of your baby Paul....?
I missed that Belleville one by a few weeks ...... .... don't be shy!!! BooB |
For the owner of the cab 11.......
.... you might want to have a look at the one for sale in Sussex NB..... as a model to help in the re-assembly........
http://saintjohn.kijiji.ca/c-cars-ve...AdIdZ136982175 Guy Take it from me.... you cannot rebuild a CMP with only one truck..... .... you will need parts and above all a truck to crawl under to see how the parts fit together........ manuals will also be of great assistance.... so will some valium or on the coast theuse Keith's...... ....but nothing compares to having a spare truck to look at....practice on... and salvage that wierd part the teenagers at Canadian Tire can't find in the computer. If I can be of any assistance just drop a line. Boob |
Numbers
Thank you for the data guys! The two numbers are the lowest and highest known C15 numbers (to me) to date! If the engine is original, then the number is on a stamped pad on the block, and near the block casting number is a casting date code: LETTER (A to L) for Month (Jan to dec), DIGIT(S) (1 to 31) then 0 for 1940, 1 for 1941 etc. I estimate that it's a 1940 build and that's as far as I can go at present. Oh, a 1940 MODEL of course...the first British orders were all 1941 Models!

C-15
Hi Bob,
It's not much to look at but it is a Chev, much easier in my opinion to do the mechanical and engine. |
what box are you think of installing....
Nice find Paul.....
what kind of box are you contemplating..... a 2B1 or an earlier wooden one..? We have two rusted but complete 2B1 in Ottawa..... typically too rusted to be repaired.... but are seriously contemplating using them as patterns for building at least one..... found a willing fabricator for the heavy and large bending that can handle both the overall isze of the head panel and tailgate. One outstanding issue will be to reproduce the little brass male, capstan shaped, studs that are affixed with 3 rivets to the side.... intended to hold the leather straps for the canvas cover on earlier models. Once we get one box done, we will have all the dimensions duly recorded. Keep us posted of your progress. Bob |
Engine number for David Hayward
Hello David,
I just checked the data plate on my truck and the engine number matches the registration. This would indicate that the engine number of 2789696 is correct for my truck. I wonder why the serial numbers would be so far apart on two trucks, yet the engine numbers are so close? Paul Singleton |
Engine # v Serial #
I can only suggest that these engines, ex-Windsor Plant, being TRUCK and RIGHT HAND DRIVE, and ARMY (TRA prefix) were stored and used specifically. In these early days anyway.

Early #11 Cab
I stopped at David Pope's as I needed a the right front hanger for my #11 spring .We notice that there was different kinds .The shape was different where the pin went through .The #11 had a lip on the out side and the # 13 was flat across .You would not notice this if you could not see other trucks .to compare with .
