EXCELLENT KUNO! :salute:

I have placed my order and paid through http://www.jebelsherif.org/

I note that the postage is cheapest from NZ. Is the book printed there and not in Europe?

Kuno 06-06-09 13:36

Thanks for that, Tony. For readers on NZ and AUS we have arranged that a part delivery is directly going to Auckland and will be distributed from there then. The postage from Europe to NZ would be a high additional cost!

Our book was first seen in NZ at a display day for the NZ Military Historical Society on Sunday. See attached my photos of the display.

Much interest in the work and many people expressed their thoughts about the exceptional quality of the book. I haven’t had a chance to promote the book properly yet, but I will be doing that over the next couple of weeks.

Cheers

Brendan

Just finished reading the book and enjoyed it immensely. Also picked up the video "Lost in Libya" which complimented the book nicely. My compliments to Kuno and his colleagues for a job well done.

Thanks again for complment. Makes one very happy - not one single negative comment until today, all positive up to enthusiastic!

Chuck Anderson 18-08-09 19:50

Hi Kuno -

I received mine today. I think US customs held it up a bit (they probably wanted to read through it too).

The book is first rate! The way it's laid out with the photos and the detail information is very well done. I hope you do so well with this one that you end up doing another. I'm going to show my friends & encourage them to get a copy before they're gone.

Regards,
Chuck

Kuno 06-09-09 01:00

I am very happy - I got only positive, if not to say enthusiastic feedback. Not only from 'normal' readers but as well from sons of LRDG members and even from LRDG vetrans.

Well done Kuno,

I got my copy on Saturday and read it cover to cover.

It is well laid out and very readable. The variety of photos is amazing with some sourced from each of the combatants, and the recent colour pics show the vastness of the desert.

I particularly liked the way it moved between your journeys and the actual events.

Now to rewatch the TV doco

Rob

More than half of the print run is already out of the house - but I need space for my new project. So; I would be happy, if the other half.... :-)

Incident at Jebel Sherif – Review

Dear Colleagues;

It is now precisely a year ago when a truck brought the printed copies of our book. We were very fortunate since nobody brought up “new” photographs or found a mistake in our conclusions and text which would have to be edited. Even better; I don’t remember any negative comment received from those many who have obtained their copy of the book.

A further encouragement is to see a book-review in a magazine…

Many thanks for your interest in our book and kind regards,

Kuno

Sea of Sand

I found a DVD of the only LRDG movie, made in 1958, staring Richard Attenborough. It was in the bookshop of the Imperial War Museum at Stg 6.99. Its zone 2, but works on my zone 4 player in NZ.

The logo on the case is ITV, but I can't find it on www.itv.com

The trucks they use in the film are Dodges, made up to look like the late model Chevs, and some of the details are suspect:

The germans have US half tracks (of course), and the german tanks look like Pz III but could be painted pictures as they are in the background of one scene only

The trucks are marked as T patrol, yet have mixed crews including Guardsmen and just a single kiwi soldier!

His "lemon squeezer" is wrong, worn with the valley to the front, instead of the ridge. In fact it looks like an american army campaign hat !

Overall its a good yarn, typical of the post war era black and white war movies.

Kuno 25-05-12 17:08

Hi Dinty; no, I was not with this group. My first visit to Jebel Sherif was in 2006, then the idea for the book came up. I was there again in 2008 to verify some of our 'szenarios' and at that time an NZ TV Crew was with me as well. Their documentary was broadcasted then in 2009 at ANZAC day - "Lost in Libya" was the name of it.
