EOI - Carrier vision port glass
Hello all,
I am having several sets of carrier vision port glass manufactured for my project and just wanted to know if anyone else is interested in having a set made. So far I have ordered a set of three for the machine plus three spare and another Full set just to be sure. For ease of manufacture they are made of modern safety glass, laminated double thickness and fit perfectly into my original frames. One thick and one thin layer could also be made but will be much more expensive and fiddly. Besides, they look identical when fitted to the frames and on the vehicle. Initial estimate is less than $15 Aud per each glass port plus shipping and may well turn out to be quite a bit less than that...still negotiating. I have reason to believe that the same port glass will fit British, Australian, Canadian and American manufactured carriers but someone out there will know for sure. They also appear to fit Australian Dingo and Rover Armoured cars which is why I have ordered some spare. If you want a set please let me know and I can get more manufactured before the company gets bored with it :) Cheers Phill |
Hello Phill,
If they fit the LP2A then i,m up for a set. Regards Justin. |
Phillip
The glass would have the thick and thin layer( for your scout), which is thinner than the Aust carrier glass. A good source is the old english cars. It's all laminate as you say, made up of a 2mm and a 3mm, I think. The LP2's have 6mm(or 6.5mm)
Unfortunately you dont get the brand mark that was on them. |
Ahhh
OK Lynn,
Thanks for that. I realised that I was using ex-LP2A frames as a pattern they appeared to the untrained eye to be identical. Oh well they will have to do for now I guess as the originals were long gone when I found the Scout Carrier. The ones I am having made will still fit LP Carriers, Rovers and Aust Dingos so no great loss there. We already need many for the Museum's fleet. Just as a matter of interest, what were the markings on the English glass ? The one and only intact glass I have found for a pattern has the classic 'triplex' logo in one corner. Cheers Phill |
No luck
Sorry about this but the contractor has been unable to get to actually looking at the sample I provided, let alone manufacturing them.
I was able to recover my original sample and have since found enough stained but intact original glasses to complete my carrier. The price originally quoted seemed almost too good to be true :( Phill |
Hello Phill,
No worries,i ended up getting a set anyway, what i do need is one of the metal frames they fit in.one of myn was stuffed. Justin. |
Only broken bits
Sorry Justin, I only just managed to locate a set for myself (one has a corner broken free) and a few random rusted or broken pieces.
Finding enough original glass was by sheer luck as well... Originally i was contemplating making some up out of brass beams from the hobby store and sheet silver soldered together - what a fiddly and fragile job that would be ! Cheers Phill |
