Canada is one of the largest outposts of the old British Empire yet you chaps dont have a cricket team (that plays against us on regular basis anyway).

We have the ashes series (Australia vs England) going on at the moment and in a 5 test series its one apiece with decider starting tonight.

I ask this because I'm sure you blokes would share the pleasure on an equal level to Aussies beating the poms in any sport.

Apologies if this question has been answered before. I know you've got a very good rugby side ( go the grizzlies ) So what happens in the summer??

There is some interest in the sport in our Indo-Pakistani and like communities, but so far it is no threat to hockey. I suppose if someone came up with a logical explanation of how "ins" become "outs" we may take a more than passing interest. I'll stick to the global sport of CMP building - at least it is a straightforward endeavour.

A breif update on this last test in the series is England are on top (a humiliating thing to admit at any stage of the game)

I was blissfully ignorant of that fact...I am not sure if Cricket will ever make the mainstream given the excitement of our other "national" sports: Lacrosse and Hockey.

Maybe if it becomes an Olympic sport it might gain some momentum.

Other than pounding back pints (which the Brits lose to us Canucks & Aussies) I don't think we share much in the way of sports. Canada does have a team for world cup football (soccer) but still very junior.

Unfortunately our own native game of hockey has been corrupted by the media giants to the south of us. :cheers:

Canada's greatest international rivalry outside of hockey is between our national Rugby team and the All-Blacks from New Zealand. Now there's a match! An old school chum and former team-mate of mine, Pip Robins made the National team as a Scrum Half. I used to love watching them play in Brockton Oval in Stanley park back in the day before it burned down.
The Vancouver and District High School Rugby championship is played for the prestigious "New Zealand Shield" which was donated to our Rugby League long, long ago by the All-Blacks. Twice I made it to the championship...once in 1971 when I made the Senior team even though I was still in the eleventh grade and then again in 1972 as a Senior. Unfortunately we lost both times, to McGee who were a Rugby powerhouse back then. :cheers:Derek.

All Blacks v Canada, I'd say thats the equivalent of Australia taking you blokes on in Ice Hockey.
I still don't reckon we'd have any chance even if it was a 10 match tournamant played in Alice springs & you guys playing in the Saltwater crocodile half.

My good friend Tony means well. You see, Tony actually likes Cricket.
Unfortunately, our North American & European friends may now think that Cricket is an actual worthwhile pursuit, and that all Aussies actually follow the game with interest. Not so. Only those with no family, no hobbies, no friends and no life will spend 5 days watching a ridiculous game that usually ends in a draw.
In order to assist people who not familiar with the game of Cricket, I offer this explanation . . . . .
Cricket is a game in which there are 2 sides - one side is out, and the other side is in.
The entire team that is out goes out, until they get the team that is in out.
Each man in the side that is in goes out, and once he is out, he comes in, then the next man goes out until he's out and then he comes in.
When the side that is in is all out, the side that has been out goes in, and the side that was in goes out and tries to get out the side that went in.
Sometimes there are men still in and not out when the side that is in is finally out.
When both sides have been in and out, including those not out, and no longer in - that is the end of the game. (Five days later)

As a Canadian brought up in hockey,cricket makes no sense to me at all..
I have watched it and tried to make sense of it but can't make hide nor hair of sense of it..
As I see it a guy with a stick trys to keep a guy with a ball from wailing on a bunch of bowling pins behind home plate...
Scoring is unfathomable..
I'm sure a guy with a Enfield could make a dent on them pins from the pitching mound..but that probably wouldn't be "Cricket..""

To me cricket ranks one small step above that game that has people walking around a paddock chasing a little white ball just to get it in a hole. What's even more shocking they are usually so enthusiastic about it the silly buggers will play in all sorts of bad weather as well! But I gotta admit the only Golf I really like is the GTi made by that german company VW!..... But I'd rather sit and read a good book with a :coffee but everyone too their own I guess.....you know some folk even like CMP's! :D

Simply curious in the level of interest in Canada about the game of cricket. You might also say I am being extremely gracious in defeat by mentioning it even though we did cop a drubbing.
An attribute that can be learnt from playing the great game.

By the way...... I enjoyed driving a C15 2wd slowly as well.

='s a uniquely Australian colloquialism meaning, they got the pants thrashed off them, or... getting the crap kicked out of them,or... being trounced,or... totally wasted, which coincidentally is what we (NZ ) did to them , the last time we played Rugby and Netball. Since beer companies don't sponsor Canadian Cricket, we don't watch it (as some would have you believe). I think that the real reasons that it has not caught on in "Canader", is that it requires considerable study to be understood, and it is three shades more boring than American baseball...just my beer-drinking opinion.

Got to go - the beer sponsored hockey game is on!
