Water Tanks Wanted

3 Attachment(s)
Guys, I'm looking for a couple of Canadian Forces black plastic 5-gal water cans for my jeep. They must be good enough to carry potable water, not just for show.

Also, I need a fuel spout to fit the gas can in the first two pics attached. Please advise if you have one or if you know where I can find one. Oh yeah, and where in southern Ontario can I find a pintle hook attachment to fit the socket in the third pic? Ultimately I want to buy a jeep trailer to match the jeep and ease transport space. Any leads on the trailer bit? It must be ready-to-go because I haven't any place to work on it.... :)

Thanks,

Jif

Here ya go, Boobie. There are a few things I have yet to do to it (water cans, trailer and some other stuff), but it's set up "right" - 2" suspension lift, revised shocks, 32-11.50x15" tyres on custom rims and that wonderful Warn X8000i winch on the front, mounted on a custom frame which also supports the jerry can holders on each side. Gas mileage sucks, but I don't care! We just drove it to and from Windsor, and it travels wonderfully.

BTW, it started out life as a stock 2003 TJ Sahara... bit of an improvement, heh? :D

Dunno what I'm going to call it (that "COMMANDO" has to go!) but if you're not careful I might name it after you... :yappy:

Jif

PS: Thanks for the link, Paul! That's what I'm looking for, for pulling people out of the ditch as well as a trailer.

Geoff,

DS Tactical in New Westminster, BC has the Scepter line, Fuel, Water, Accessories... Good service from them.

I have never had great success with the new style scepter horsecocks. They split and leak, and it seems like 50% of the cans get the pour spouts stuck on them. The inside of the plastic jerry can has the same threads in it as the old metal cans. The new plastic cans will accept the original steel horsecocks, either the expanding rubber plug type or the old threaded type.

Well, I've ordered one (plus a water can) and we'll see what happens... at least their 19mm horsecock will fit inside the civvie spring-loaded fuel entry port , unlike the old mil ones. I'll let you know if they're any good at all!

Geoff,

I have used these,(the black ribbed ones) and they are of a very high quality. Not sure what Rob ran into, but I have had no problem with them what so ever. Perhaps its the cold cold Shilo winters that do them in...

Bob Carriere 10-09-09 01:46

Nice serious off roading machine....

....but why did you write your date of birth on the front fenders.....???

You could almost pull a 3/4 tom M101 behind that thing if you bothered to change for same size tires as the jeep and mount the axle above the spring instead of below...... whcih you can then tarp over and ...
............voila...a Gin palace.

..and change the Commando to Commander......

Just don't call you Jeep "BooB"

I like it when you talk dirty, but this language would make a trooper blush...

Paint and other fun things

Well, I picked up my hard top today - what a pain in the ass! Not only is the bloody thing heavy and awkward, I found that the 74 year-old vehicle owner had actually painted the side windows over in camouflage! We're going to be busy for a while trying to scrape all that off so that you can actually see out of the Jeep...

In other news, I bought a pintle mount and pintle hook from Princess Auto today, which is great... but they badly need paint (they're black)! Does anyone in the GTA have any flat khaki paint they can spare? I really only need one litre, for the pintle stuff and touch ups, and I'd like to avoid paying a premium to mix up a new batch. Failing that, is there a formula I could use to get a small amount cheaply?

Any advice gratefully accepted. :D

Jif

Canadian tire, TSC and Walmart all have camo in spray cans these days. Krylon, rustoleum, and even tremclad all supply the olive green, desert tan and other colors. You may not find an exact match to the color you need, but you'll likely come pretty close.

Brad Mills 11-09-09 13:17

Not at all Geoff, I knew it was only a matter of time...:-)
