Post war WD/MoD numbers

I have been asked by a contact what the official designation was after the new numbering system was introduced post-war by the War Department? This was taken on by the Ministry of Defence of course. The WD system was previously a 'Census Number', and then we had the 1949? -on digits-letters-digits system.

David,
On some of the vehicle data paltes for vehicles in 50's and 60's, there were shown as WD No., but laterly, I think you will find them refered to as ARN, Army Registration Number.
