Interest in repro CTL marked rubber handgrips?
Hi Folks,
Again, since I can't find any to buy, I find myself exploring the option to try to make my own. I have one original rubber hand grip for the gunner's panic bar. I need to make up some rubber castings of these for my carrier and one other. I also need to cast the rubber part of the "B" mast aerial for the WS 19. So, If I can manage to make up a mold and turn out a few usable results, who out there would be interested in copies?? Cheers, Jim |
2 For Me!
Jim,
I am interested in 2 new rubbers for my MkII. Stewart How does your Carrier run in the snow? |
Ok. Stewart, 2 it is.
Well, pretty good unless you try to bash over a snow berm. 3 winters ago we got high centered and had to use the C-15 to pull it off the mound. Once it packed enough snow under the hull to loose traction on one side, the other side stopped moving. So, at a standstill. We'll find out more in a couple of weeks at the Battle of the Bulge event at Ft.Indiantown Gap. We have a better event planed at the same sit but in March. More armour! Come play! Jim |
Hi I'm new here a freind and myself are going to restore an MKII universal carrier this winter and would be interested in 2 sets of hand grips as he has 2 carriers let me know if you repo the grips
Thanks Darren |
hand grips
Geez I must be getting senile what bloody hand grips are you talking about?
|
Hi Art,
The Gunner had a post bolted on the right corner of the flat plate and th eangle for the gun shield. There was also a second post bolted to the hull on his left sidenear the fire extuingisher. These were for the gunner to have something to hold on to when the driver got frisky. They both have a rubber sleve that looks like a gripon a motorcycle handle bar. In fact a lot of people use those for the hand grip on the carrier. I have one intact, but cracked original FMC grip. This is what I plan to clean up and make a mold from and cast a few replicas from. I don't have my manual handy to give you the part number at the moment, But if someone else doesn't give a better description, I will get you the numbers so you can find it in the manuals. Cheers, Jim |
B set base
Jim
I have some new No. 19 set "B" bases , the rubber section . It's a convoluted shaped thing that sits on the metal base . A 20" rod screws into the rubber section. I sold one to Rob Fast , for his HUW truck . It would be rather difficult to copy as it has a metal base and top moulded into the rubber . I think I have about ten left . Many years ago I found a box of about 50 new ones . Also had some of the crew in rods . By the way , the B set was almost useless . The crews found out quickly it was better to open the hatch and shout to the tank next door , rather than use the B set . A single tube super reg set running at 250 ? MHZ was a bit too ambitious I think . Mike Kelly |
Re: B set base
Hi Mike,
My, that is good news! Depending on how many yopu have left, I would like to get one and a spare for each vehicle. For me, that would be 6. I also have club members with 19 sets in 3 Dingos who would like a pair also. Obviously, is the stock won't allow for that, then one each for each vehicle. Do you have 12 to sell? and how much? How would we make a payment? Could I pay for something here in Dollars, say, for an ebay win? Or cash in US$ depending on the final tally. Any leads on the round wire brush guard for the B masts? Cheers, Jim |
Carrier antenna bases
I would like one of the antenna bases for my carrier if possible and two hand grips if they coe about. I might add that my carrier had 2 wooden grips on, instead of rubber, in the shape of elongated hour glass.
Also just an aside, is the carrier still outside in the snow? I drove a cat track hoe last winter and the tracks would pack so tight with snow that it would almost stop then there would be a hge "bang" as all the tension let go. Hard on tracks as it stretches them and shortens the life. These tracks were street pads so very tight together with no place for the snow to be pushed through, not unlike the carrier. Very common in tracked vehicles. Sean |
Carrier Antenna Base
Hi Mike
I'm kitting our Museum Carrier out with a 19 set. I don't have a B set but any parts towards it would be useful to keep in storage. Bob |
