Can you tell me where to find the chassis numbers, stamped on the chassis of the C15A truck ?
Have any pictures?
Thanks in advance!!

Chassis stamping

I have heard of partial stamping on the chassis rails on Canadian trucks...it seems that GM-Holden's stamped the complete number on their CKD-assembled components.

I don't have any reason to say this is the case for the frame in the photo, but I wonder whether the serial might have been stamped on the frame after the truck left the service as part of the requirements to permit registration? I used to own a Sankey bridging trailer that didn't have a serial number on the frame, only on a data plate and the Transport folks wouldn't accept either the short serial number (only five digits if memory is good) or the fact that it wasn't a permanent part of the frame (they preferred stamping but would accept welded numbers and I got away with stamping some sheet steel and welding that to the frame).

Regarding that C15A the numbers seem to be too misaligned to be factory applied. I think Grant is likely right on the reason.
The only numbers I've seen on CMPs is on the side of the frame on Cab 11 and 12 Fords and one 1942 F15A had it stamped by the drivers side motor mount. I've never seen a number stamped into a Chev frame.

david

the #'s by the motor mount on the Ford, is it on top of the rail or on the inner or outer side ?, Im still trying to find mine but not 100% clear on where I should look or take the wire wheel to short of rebuilding the whole truck :yappy:

Thanks much

chassis number location

The Australian produced Chevrolet CMPs all had the number stamped on the left chassis rail, generally between the front spring hangars but sometimes further back.

Ford were less precise about location, but usually it was adjacent to the right engine mount on the top surface, and sometimes on the right vertical face of the chassis rail in roughly the same place.

Once the cab and splash panels are in position the top chassis rail is impossible to see in any case on a Ford. Unlike the Chevrolet where the chassis number contained a code describing the chassis type Ford used the engine number which was also stamped on the gearbox bell housing.

Having said all that there have been Ford chassis where I could not locate a number at all.
