Just a couple of pics of the extra help I had this christmas....a few more hands are always good. Both sons home from Red Deer for the season. Had a hellofa time getting this engine out, but we did it. I was completely seized due to oil starvation. Yuck....have a new rebuilt 318 to drop back in....

cheers

I have seen lots of 318 and 360 Dodges with the oil pump drive twisted off. Usually a piece of one of the valve stem seals gets sucked into the pump and locks it up. Did this happen to your truck?

stuck engine...

Hi Paul,

I would like to say yes to your question but.....the ol' Dodge had a noisy rod for a long time. I let someone borrow the truck for a few days and it stopped on him in Detroit. I suppose the rod finally let go and the bearing clearly spun...once that happened it appears two others let go....ouch. I could not turn the engine to remove it free from the torque converter so I pulled it out as a unit. Once I opened up the bottom end and removed all the main bearing caps and con rod caps it took a 10 lb sledge to move the crank...tomorrow I will post a couple of pics of the con rods...pretty neat actually, regardless of the damage.

cheers

Well I'm glad to see that you got your moneys worth out of that engine!

Well here is what she looks like before I get my finger prints all over it while getting it stuffed back into my Dodge...gonna drop the trany and attach to the engine and then drop in. I had such a hard time undoing the bell housing bolts that it will be much easier to drop the whole thing in at once....or at least that is the plan.

cheers

Mike aka Frak....
