Found During Clean Up

A nice "Young" man asked me to help clean up his old compound behind his
old driving shed, I of course could not say no.... here is what I found....

MOST of you may be at least a LITTLE interested.....

:drunk:

I think it is 3x LRs, 2x38s, 2x Mk-II and 2xMk-I but I defer to the experts here.

Location: ... Its in Small town, Ontario!

pauljboudreau 11-04-10 04:45

can i help clean up too?

The_Stainless_Steel_Rat 11-04-10 04:54

The Mk 1 with all the Armour in the front of the photos is FULL of
armor panels and sheet metal parts as well for the rest, for now
the clean up is done but there may be a chance for another soon.

what's next?

So now that you've found the gold mine, what's the plan? Only Snow White had 7 Dwarves to do her work for her.

rob love 11-04-10 07:32

Lots of potential in that yard. Great find.

Jordan Baker 11-04-10 08:15

Hahaha, i too have climbed all over that yard. I still have some parts to return since ive made my copies.

Stop being a tease and show the shed.

RichardT10829 11-04-10 10:46

DROOOOOL !!! please can i come and live there...... that is some gold mine that dont let it fall into the wrong hands..... i can help preserve one of the carriers :) and i reckon Martyn and Kevin could preserve one each too :) quick container to old Blighty and Voila. fantastic find i am super green with envy....

if any do end up going for sale let me know as i would certainly be interested in one (preferably with armour this time round)

Ummm where to find some dwarves when you need them...

I think The Mark 1 with the good armour will be the first project,
not that i will ever be able to drive one of these, a passenger maybe,
a driver, never. It will make a nice companion to the others that are
usually at parades and displays in the area.

wish us luck!

Well for one, I do not OWN these....the owner will want some help with the Mk1
and i will of course do that, and I may also convince him to work on a Jeep also.
we will have to make more concrete plans. His heart lies in the Land Rovers I fear.

Landrovers, i could swap him 4 series landys for a carrier hahahahaha (all pre 1972). you need to pursuade him the Mk1 carrier is his priority :) great thread i keep spotting bits everytime i look. please can you get him to note down the CT numbers etc etc for the hulls and armour you never know, like Phills recent thread we may inspire him... one of those sexy beasts may have been somewhere or done something amazing, like the many service men that used them through WW2

There are 3 landy's, all pre 1960

As a side note - only a few pieces of CDN equipment were brough back from Europe after the war, most of it was given away to re-equip our "allies" once Mr Hitlers mob was sent packing.

Farley Mowatt ( the Author ) was instrumental in getting back a few and was soundly rebuked for it, and the veh's all disposed of quickly. General Crears" planning trailer ended up as temp housing for tobacco pickers untill found by Dr Gregg.

When I was a kid age around 11, I lived in the PMQ's at Camp Picton, Ontario. There was a large selection of vehicles and field guns on the commons(grass area) of one the the un-used courts there. What ever happened to the suff I don't know. Last I saw them was in 1960 as we moved to Winnipeg when my dad was posted to Winnipeg. He was with the 2RCHA 127 Bat. Light Ak Ak. Myabe the stuff belonged to the regiment.

Phill 14-04-10 00:53

Pzrwest,
It's a shame, most of the barracks at the old Picton army camp continue to deteriorate. The flying club has been kept up though, and all the airplane hangers are rented out for storage I believe. Several similar hangers have been torn down at nearby 'active' Mountain View airport, with only 2 remaining there, due to rotting roofs.

The guard house is still there, as are the buildings across the road. There is no military equipment there at all.

The houses are being redone inside and sold for a very reasonable price, about $130K I think, and that part of the base looks much as it was. Phil

Jon Bradshaw 19-04-10 04:45

Nice find!

Are these in canada? I was always thinking there was a collection hiding somewhere.
Would love to have one myself in that good a condition.

pzrwest 19-04-10 04:59

Phill if I went to our old pmq at 8 Reichswald and put a blind fold on I could walk from the back door to my bedroom the layout is still that fresh in my mind. We had a ball as a kid living in the pmq's with all the military stuff there to play on.

Phill 19-04-10 12:32

I might be able to get a picture of the building if I knew where to look. Excuse my ignorance, is that the # on the barracks? Being a family would you have lived in one of the many houses on the edge of the base? Phil :)

The_Stainless_Steel_Rat 20-04-10 17:52

Yes these are in Canada in the Province of Ontario

Bryan Michenfelder ...

Your name is already all over the internet (how do you think I found it?). We here at MLU have (mostly) used our real names in the 12 years we've been in existence, and whatever your internet moniker, we'd prefer you identify yourself as a real person in our discussions online, even if it's just your by first name. It tends to add to our sense of community here. :)

Thank you,

Geoff Winnington-Ball
Owner & Chief Administrator,

PS: Same with you, Harold ("pzrwest"). We here are different than other forums out there. Get used to it or move on.

The_Stainless_Steel_Rat 20-04-10 19:16

You don't necessarily have to, Bryan... just ensure that everyone here - some of whom who have known each other personally for 30-odd years - knows to whom they're speaking. Putting at least your first name in your signature would be a start.

If you prefer to change your login, I can do that for you... just ask. :)
