I had seen this resin stuff on the internet comes as a kit the first is a rubber compound which you make the mould from, the second is the hard composite resin to make the item, the chap demonstrates by making an old 1930's jaguar steering wheel, i cant remember but it was someone from here that sent me the link a while ago...... i cant recall the name of the kit though...I think it was either Rick, Doug, Gordon, or Big Mike....... DOE ! the procedure looked fairly straight forward though

I've got a Canadian wheel, however it's started to expand around the centre where rust has got in, I'll post a photo tomorrow, didn't bother you about it as I thought they would be plentiful.

I am also looking for a steering wheel...

I am also looking for a steering wheel, this time for a mk1: Carrier, 3 inch mortar T83628

Does anyone have any information on the dimensions of the track warping cam arrangement, my one is very corroded, and I am about to pull out all of the gear in that area for a total rebuild...any information welcome...

Kind regards,

Mark Cameron

Thanks

To everyone for their replies> I was hoping to buy a good one from Canada (Is anyone over there listening?)I would like to see the Photos Brian. You will get answers from here Mark. Give us some specifics. I have made up rollers, and a camplate, as well as bearing retainers. It cant be too hard for an engineer.

In Kiwi speak "yeah, naahh. She'll be right, thanks all the same Mate"
You did warn me, but I'm looking for a good one. How many carriers did Ford of Canada build? Somebody in Canada must have one.
T80889 looks like a good project. Is the front armour off a different carrier? How about pics of the inside?

Lynn Eades 13-06-11 03:04

Still Looking.

I thought I'd bump my ad. As yet no result. Someone must have one.

Lynn,
In the past i have used a Daimler Ferret wheel, you have to make an adaptor for the centre as the Ferret has a larger taper and you have to fit the wheel with the smaller cone inwards, also you have to remove a spoke as they are a 4 spoke wheel. apart from that they are vitually the same and no one ever spotted the difference. If you can't find a genuine one it would get you out of a muddle. i think Macus Glenn has them for sale at not a lot of at all, new and still in the box.they are on his website.

Carrier Steering Wheel

Hi Lynn - just had a look at Oz Carriers steering wheels. They don't look much different to the Canadian ones. What is the difference?

Bob

LP wheels have a thicker rim and spokes. They also have more cut outs around the rim for your fingers if I remember right? Very different wheels up close.

I'd be going for one of Ross H's alloy replicas. Very nicely made and none of the problems of rotting out. Yeah they aren't "Genuine" but we won't go down that road....

Just scroll up a little, and have a look at Brians middle picture.

I am interested in your steering wheel if still available? Do you have any other spares in regard to steering parts, gears or linkages? Paul

Lynn Eades 24-04-13 06:24

Paul, welcome aboard! If you put your cursor over Kevins name, and right click, it will show you some contact options.
Good luck!

I have also been keeping my eyes open since we spoke about this subject months ago, but not even seen a crappy one.........anywhere.

Are you sure yours is beyond repair by a steering wheel restorer? They can work miracles. I looked into this subject some time ago, because I fully expected to need this service myself. As it turned out, I was extremely lucky.

If there isn't a suitable service in NZ, I can put you in touch with a firm in Aus.

:salute:

Lynn Eades 27-04-13 15:06

Tony, thankyou for the offer. I have someone working on a wheel.
