Calling the brains trust
I know this is not necessarily military but is there someone out there who recognises this carby and what it fits?
It's a Solex B49 and the card with it appears to say Morris. Here are a couple of pics, otherwise over to you. http://gallery.me.com/oldcmp.net/100...W_0192/web.jpg http://gallery.me.com/oldcmp.net/100...W_0193/web.jpg It appears to be New Old Stock. |

Well, the model number is 30FAI and that covers a wealth of different cars of 1930's to 50's, Hillman Minx, Rover P1, Singer Raodster, Standard Flying 10, etc, as standard fitment. As replacements of other makes of carby, this model also fitted Austin Eight, Big Seven, Ten and some of the K2 and K4 trucks. all these will have different jetting and choke sizes. I was slightly suspicious of the small letter "R" over 30FAI, so looked again in my Solex specification catalogue, for 30RFAI and bingo :thup2:, it lines up with Morris LC, LCS and PV van of 1946-49. The specification number is S1376, not sure if that would be stamped on the carby, but might be on the label. Incidentally, I came across the Solex catalogue in a secondhand motor bookshop in Sydney some years ago, a wealth of info, along with pocket sized AMF handbooks for Ford and Chevy Blitz trucks and Willys Jeep. regards, Richard |

While I am definitely not part of the “brains trust” I do like a research challenge so I did a search last night and could not find anything with Solex B49. So this morning with Richard's information that it was a 30FAI, I found this information - A link which shows photographs of Solex carburettors http://www.carburetterspecialists.fs...res%20page.htm A list of what English vehicles had Solex carburettors - some of the Morgan’s had this particular model of carburettor too http://www.blrec.co.uk/home/carb.htm Kind Regards Lionel |
I knew I could count on you lot
Thanks to the brains trust! :thup2:

Keith, Just to elaborate on those Morris models, LC was a Morris Commercial bonneted truck, with 4 cylinder engine (like the farmer had in Aussie film, Babe), the LCS was a special version of LC, built for Post Office Telephones in UK, and PV was a forward control van. |

GM door hinge
I've come across a number of these door hinges painted khaki and one of them had a GM part tag attached with a rather indistinct part number which looks like 06073545. Any ideas? It looks like a car hinge.
