Carrier transmissions
Got my carrier transmission rebuilt, and on the way in to my shop I stumbled setting it down, Cracked the housing completely down the length.I am taking it to a welder to see if it can be salvaged. Does anyone know if a standard 1940's truck tranny housing will work successfully in a bren gun carrier?Or does anyone have a tranny for a canadian Mk 1 * for sale? Thanks Derrick Eastman

I just went through this myself over the summer.
A truck transmission housing will work fine. You will have to drill and tap a couple holes on the back to accept the transmission to axle adapter. The truck transmission I used had most of them already, just needed two more to complete the circle. I think I had to relocate the grease cup for the release bearing as well. Not real important mind you. By the way, you can get a really short grease gun extension hose at princess auto for a couple bucks that replaces the original hose perfectly. |
Tranny
I concure you can use an old truck tranny

Housing
They are just a standard housing. If extra holes had to be drilled and tapped, then your housing would be a later model one
As I have mentioned before, many internal parts are the same as the WC series WWII Dodge box (but not the input, and output shafts) |

Henry Ford made it easy , All Bren Carriers had Ford flathead V8 engines, Trannys, Axels, wheel hubs, steering boxes, etc. it's like a Steel ratrod. Aidan
