Rare canadian trailer
5 Attachment(s)
Hello
Every year at the end of summer there is a huge military vehicles meeting in NORTH of France at the little town of SOUCHEZ (near the famous city of ARRAS) These year (among the 200 vehicles) there was a GMC loaded with an anti-aircraft light towing a canadian trailer which aim was to supply the electricity for the projector. The trailer was founded in a scrapyard and had not been modified. One of the interesting item was the green light in front of the left wing. Remember that CMP truck own a hole at each end of front bumper to house a green catadioptre but not fitted on most part of them. The trailer had been build by BRANTFORD COACH an BODY as indicated on the rear plate. The engine a FORD V8 and all item were in runnig state. Regards Serge |

souchez
Just too put Souchez into perspective, it is a village in the Zouave valley. It is situated at the bottom of what we call Vimy Ridge and is just below The Pimple. Canada's Unknown Soldier was exhumed from Cabaret-Rouge CWGC, which is about 1.5 kilos south of the village. A very, very interesting part of France for Canadians to visit!

rare Canadian trailer
Serge,
a very nice find - thanks for posting the pictures. I don't think I have ever seen a single axle Canadian trailer with duals before. Brian |

20 cwt
The frame looks the same as my 20 cwt trailer particularly the front. Different support legs but otherwise looks the same. 15 cwt had 16 inch wheels 20 cwt has 20 inch wheels.
|
The normal wheels found on 2 wheel Canadian trailers are either 16" as fitted to CMPs or commercial pattern 20". Dual tires wer not common, I don't know of Canadian made trailers below 5 ton capacity fitted with duals but can't say it didn't happen.

rare canadian trailer
Following what the owner told me, the trailer was founded in a scrapyard near the town of BOULOGNE SUR MER a little haven in front of GREAT BRITAIN. The green light in front of the trailer proves that it was never used neither by french army nor by civilians because such light are forbidden on french road.

Triple carbs..
Quote:
Do my tired old eyes deceive me or is that a triple 2 barrel carb set up on that beautiful flathead..???? Three deuces ,in line were hot in the early fifty's ,with progressive linkage.. All us youngsters would have killed for that set up on our fifties Fords(And Meteors).. Tell me my eyes are not playing tricks on me..and can we get some close ups of the set up of the carburetors... Nostalgic old fool.... |

It looks like a single carb with a Ford Truck aircleaner. These were a big oilbath airfilter that was offset for hood clearance, unlike the blitz which had plenty of overhead clearance for a big aircleaner. |

Here are a number of images of the trailer in question, a Trailer, Searchlight, AA, 20KW Generator, 5M-P-GEN-2.
Several of these images will appear in the 'Tarilers' section of "Drive to Victory" (note the blatant commercial plug) :p http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa04.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa05.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa01.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa11.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa06.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa03.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa02.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/aa07.jpg |

rare canadian trailer
Hello
Very good information! I thought that all the trailer was original because at the bottom end of the fenders there was a canvas , the same we find at the bottom end of fenders of CMP.. The only part with an interrogation was the braket of lights using a thin metal part. Regards to all |
