1920's 4x4 trucks
 

This pic is doing the E-mail rounds at the moment, circa 1920's, looks like some brand new trucks with a choice of solid rubber tyres or pnuematic. Any ideas on make or country?
Who can afford 20cents a gallon.....
Not normally my field of interest, but I do like this piece of history.

They look like FWD model B's
left side one about 1912-1915 model right side one possibly after war upgrade version with pheumatic tyres and larger motor
Possibly it is a before and after advertisement ?

I agree they are FWD (Four Wheel Drive) motor Company vehicles. :thup2:

Petrol price
 

You might find the petrol was 20 cents for a two gallon can, rather than per gallon.

Maybe the one with pneumatics ended up in Alice Springs.

I have been on the hunt for many years for a WW1 FWD. So far I can locate 5 here in OZ. the one in your photo used to be in the now defunct museum in Tasmania. There was another in a West Australian museum also now defunct and the one in Alice Springs.

The South Australian Military museum has the bones of another and the fifth, well thats a secret.
Who knows, maybe one day I'll find one.

I'm amazed at the numbers still surviving in Australia: if there are 5 or 6 "known" ones you can bet there are quite a few more scattered around thanks to the great Aussie farmer tradition of never throwing anything away (Until the great great grandkids have the big clearing sale and sell it all for scrap...)

One assumes that FWD, or FourWheel Drive was a copyrighted name? Yet it has appeared on many makes and models for years now. What a litigous minfield that would be.
