RAAF C 60 X Refuellers

Hi guys

Does anyone have information on C60 X refuellers as used by the RAAF in the SW Pacific? Are there any survivors around today?

TIA

Shane

S/M 2510?

These might have been chassis-cabs with local bodies perhaps? The Canadian archives show a 1942 contract, British Ministry of Supply Demand S/M 2510 for the purchase of C60X trucks for Australia.

Ex RAAF refueller, in it's death throes, Maloney Trucks, 1974

Could it still be around somewhere? :(

I doubt it, Hanno
This was a long while ago and the truck was in their boneyard so most likely it was broken up for spares.

Here's one of them in service:

from my Boronia RSL album page.

The RAAF still had them in service in the mid 70's! Although gradually replaced by Internationals from the mid 60's I can remember refueling in Townsville and Wagga in particular (might have been other places too) and being served by blitz tankers.

They were fitted with 2 big booms which swung out over the wing so they could fill both sides at the same time or even two aircraft at once. This possibly was a post war modification.

I saw one in northern NSW about 5 years back being used as a water tanker and one in Coober Pedy only last year fitted with a tipper body but the tank was still in the yard. The whole unit was pretty buggered. The Bush Fire Brigade had a number of them as water tankers.

There were "lots" around and I think a concerted effort might find one if you were that keen. One of our club members has a 6x6 blitz (with a GS body) which I suspect may have been a former tanker.
