Boyertown Dodge

2 Attachment(s)
hallo,

I have a 1941 Dodge with a boyertown cargo box. I want to restore it into a bookmobile used during the WWII by organisations as the YMCA, or other private communities. I know such organisations bought civilian trucks and offered them to the army to support the soldiers and give them a" feeling like home ". Most trucks were converted into canteen trucks. Is there anyone who has knowledge of Dodge trucks used as bookmobiles ? I recently found 2 pictures on Flickr of such a truck but need to contact the owner for the rights.
I would like to convert my truck's interior into a camper whit the outside look of a WWII mobile library truck.
thanks for any information

Boyertown Dodge

Hello Bernard

The Boyertown ambulance bodies were made post war and placed on wartime Dodges.

Therefore would not have been used in WW2 except in their original configuration. (Source from Bart Vanderveen, Fighting Vehicles Directory)

Most of these ended up in Europe as Defence Aid as part of the rebuilding initiative.

Hello Bernard,
Your truck has the WW2 Dodge WC 3/4-1 1/2 ton series flat cowl from what I can see. There is no hood that will mate that cowl to the civilian front sheetmetal you have in the photo.
Best bet is to get the front sheetmetal from a 3/4 ton WC weapon carrier or similar.... Lots of headaches to follow otherwise.
Best of luck,
David

I concur

The cowl, and the front bodywork are not from the same truck. The front end goes with a cowl that peaks in the middle.
