Oil Cooler elbows
 

Hi all.

Just looking for some pictures on the Oil Cooler Elbows (CTL5138) and the lock nuts (C01UC 100260) and how they fit into the "C" channel along the hull floor.

Im working on getting the final parts made up for my oil cooler setup. I found the bits/pieces on the Vintagecarparts website.

Im just wondering how close their 1/2" elbow is to the original?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks. Im not sure if the modern ones would be long enough on the one end to fit.

Anyone have a spare set of the elbows they wish to part with?

So I ordered the modern ones from the above mentioned supplier. The threaded end wont be long enough to pass through the floor bracket and be able to hook up to the flex hose.

It should be 1/2" female to 1/2" male bspp. The male end needs to be longer so that the flex hoses can attach to them.

Ive tried to find some extentions but no luck. I think they would be called bulkhead adaptors. Just wondering if anyone can help me find some.

Is there a male -female elbow, that you can screw in some brass threaded pipe. Weld it in with easyflo, having already turned the tapered seat into the outer end of the pipe. (I know you'd rather buy the right ones)

Or.....you could sell me those ones :rolleyes

I might have spares, but they will have to wait a week until I get back from warmer climes (mexico). I can let you know then. Mind you, it's pretty damn cold out here these days, so no guarantees how long I will be willing to spend in the shed looking, nor if I'll even return from Cancun.

On another note I used the nuts/nipples that came with the elbows to make up my long lines and got everything soldered together. Tomorrow Im going to try and make up my vent tubes for the fuel tanks.

Hey Lynn. No problem at all. Was only trying to "bug" you.

Im trying to figure out what goes between the oil cooler fins and the mounting brackets. When I took mine apart there seemed to be some kind of thin rubber/cloth wrapped around it. Sadly it was too far gone to be of any help in figuring out what it was.

Can anyone suggest what to use to replace it as I don't want to crush the fins with the hose clamps.

This leads into my second question... does anyone know of a place that sells the vintage style Jubilee clamps. I can only seem to find the modern ones that have the tightening screw fully enclosed.

The wrapping just appears to be the old style insulation tape. (rag/bitumen stuff)

Jordan if you can't find anything over there. Have a look at Paul Becks site at Vintage supplies. www.vintagesupplies.com He has various styles in brass. Look at items 726 and CA1454 page 60 in the catalogue I have for 2007. It's amazing what other stuff he produces. Ron

Thanks for the info on the bitumen cloth. Ive got some canvas and will try some tar on it.

I took a look at the site for the clips. They are close but not the same as the original type ive got elsewhere on the carrier. I'll post up a picture tonight showing the type I'm after.

Here are the clamps that are original to the carrier. So far I can't seem to find any like them available.

I would suggest that manufacturing has changed over the years to use less material for the same clamping effort.

I remember Jubilee being the premier brand in the UK years ago. Perhaps a google search in the UK might yield something or a post on www.hmvf.co.uk would put you in touch with those in the know in the UK.

There is a bible kept in our shop and that is the Spaenaur catalogue.

I think you will be lucky to find them like that nowadays.

Thanks and I'll check out the links.

The one I posted is usable and so is another one that I have. They hold the leather cover on where the trans joins the rear diff. I need some smaller sizes for the oil cooler and the rad hoses.

A heating or air conditioner wholesaler will have them..identical..stainless steel up to 30"in diameter..used to secure flex duct on pipe throats..
Phone your local Carrier wholesaler,tell them you are buying it for the company or ..get the size and PM BE ..I'll GET YOU A Carrier PART NUMBER FOR THE RIGHT ONE..

I can buy the modern ones like this picture at any hardware store. The "screw" is enclosed. The kind I am after have an open "screw". I don't think they are made anymore.

So I went to install my oil cooler lines today. Had to go out and buy a 1/2 tube bender from Princess Auto. It works fine. However I collapsed one of the tube trying to get the bend tighter. I managed to get the short one installed. But the long one proved to be rather hard. The attachment point on the cooler sits lower and I found it very hard to get a tight enough bend to clear the bogie/suspension tube.

Do anyone have any photos of the lines connecting to the oil cooler itself and any suggestions to help me out with this.

Furthermore asking again if anyone has a set of the original elbows pictured above. The new made ones are too short.
