Protec paints
Has anyone in Aust. used Protec paints ? Apparently they have the current ADF paint contract .. they make camo colours in 2 pack finish . There is a branch in Dandenong . They have a wide range of finishes and base types ...

Yep
Hi MIke,
Yep we here in the west use Protec extensively. The aerosol cans were a great boost to vietnam war and later era restoration over the past 6-7 years. They have only very recently raised their prices (I hear the aerosol cans have doubled) but I have been using their products with every success. Very happy with it. Cheers Phill |
Hi all, Their manufacture is here in adelaide and I use them all the time. They do have an excellent product.

Hi all - been using them for years. Great product. Have used countless gallons of Khaki Green No.3 as well as other specialised colours.

Protec paint
Hi Bob
Is the Khaki Green # 3 a standard colour off the shelf or have you had it mixed to a sample , what I am asking is can I go into Protec here in the West and obtain it over the counter as a standard colour. Regards Jim S. |
KG No.3
Hi Jim - I sourced this colour around 2000 when I was restoring a Bren Gun Carrier. The sample came from a protected spot on the Carrier so was a good representation. As I said previously, since then have used gallons of the stuff, as has Colin. The Protec lab in Adelaide has the formula so if you were to ring my contact, Andy, on 08 8447 6311, he shpuld be able to get the lab to forward the formula. When you get it made you can also get some put into spray cans for touch ups and small jobs.
I had some made for wood paint and this is the formula for that. Khaki Green No. 3 Timbercote • 4l yellow base • B: 9Y, 20 • D: 1Y • F: 34 • A: 1Y, 20 Bob |

Thanks
Ok.. great MLU helps out again
Can the Aust. MLU community advise what type of Protec paint has produced the best results for our needs .... enamel or 2 pack or whatever . And , if you order satin finish ..or flat etc. Thanks for the formula Bob ... excellent :salute: I am after BSC 381 #222 Light bronze green ... should be a easy match for them . But not sure of the most suitable base to use . MIKE |
Re. Paint
Hi Mike - I use Equipment Enamel 304 with a satin finish.
Re. BSC 381 #222 Light bronze green, I could only find No.22 B.S.381 Light Green attributed to 1930. This colour is the same as model paint Humbrol 80 or E 5973 Model-Master if you need a sample. I have posted this before, but I source this information from http://www.miniatures.de/html/int/colourBS.html & http://www.miniatures.de/html/int/camouflageB.html Bob |
Re.Last
I just tested the two websites and they didn't register. Try this one.

Ok

BSC 22 from the 1930 chart is supposedly same as the current #222 , they just added a 2 for some reason . My 1939 - 40 era CS8's were all in that colour as the base ..... it's a very rich yellowy grass green ..if its matched correctly, it's a very nice colour . It's actually in the mid range of light - dark ... not over light . MIKE |
